Is it really that difficult to get hired for a federal job? I was interviewed for a GS12 job but never heard back, they still didn’t hire anyone and I didn’t get a rejection. I applied for another GS07 job, was accepted, I took it, but I believe I can do better. I have a master’s and have extra graduate research experience. I am still applying to new jobs but I was told it is impossible to move up the grade level now. Everyone is telling me to stick with the government. What are your thoughts?
Depends on your skillset, but yea, rough job market
This happened to me with every firm (boutique up to MBB) except bain
You cant get rejected or ghosted if you dont apply in the first place... (insert meme)

It’s highly variable and just a numbers game.
I’ve gotten rejected with a referral and also gotten 3 interview invites without a referral at all (out of like 20-25 apps)
Yep 80% successful with referrals, 5% successful without
For me, 50% success without referral, 0% success with referral (albeit small sample size).
