Then 5X’s that if you’re a minority woman. All this work gets tiring. 😪
@ACD1 - exactly. Compared to WoC, white women are cruising.
And then men some how get equal credit for the work even if all they do is attend some meetings and all you do is help win and grow the business.
Effort doesn’t really matter in an industry as subjective as ours. You can work hard and your work still suck. Not saying that’s the case here, but do think these claims have to be made with more specificity to spark meaningful discussion.
@spark foundry 1- you ask what we’re gonna do about it. I’m sick and tired of being a ‘unicorn’ 😡 I need to change the ratio in my department and I’m doing it with the only power I have- my own teams. My boss wanted me to hire someone exactly like him for a role and I made my point clear on that one. So @ACD1.... if you’re unhappy, find an agency that inspires and empowers you. If not an agency, then a mentor who will elevate you and advocate for you. And if you’re an AD/ACD, email me! 😂
Ditto ACD1. It's exhausting AF.
Your work output is meaningless. Sorry, but everyone works hard.
Get to know your boss and your boss' boss. Make yourself known and make sure you're doing work that makes their lives easier.
That's how the game is played.
If you are working 80 hours a week compared to your coworkers putting in 40 hours, you can make your case to your manager. Time sheets can actually help here.
Welcome to being a minority.
Ditto , work harder than my male colleagues, and then I’m told I’m not doing enough... but their lack of effort is ignored 😡... this is while working 50+ hrs every week, and managing to complete more projects than any other. So sick and tired of giving it 1000% and not getting rewarded for it. I’m just “ doing my job “ while they’re just being ... well them 🙃
Yup.
So what are you doing about it ?
Same. But it drives me. I’ve been seeing the results after working so hard and the boys are falling to the bottom.
Most of the management level men at my agency are gruff old bastards that won’t give you feedback or help in a meaningful way. They don’t communicate with you, don’t answer emails and some don’t even know Adobe, but they’re ACDs/CDs/CCOs because...? There are no female managers at my agency at all (in creative), women top out at Senior AD/CW. 😒
@CD1 It’s awesome that you’re impacting change. That’s the power of having a seat at the table. I do wish this struggle was specific to my agency. But this is a something I’ve felt throughout my entire career. There’s always this reality that you have to long jump to places where other people could skip. Meaning, there’s this constant need to work harder and be better just to be seen as an equal. I also wish I were an AD because I like your head space. 🙂
I watch my boss (females ECD) just tell everyone how good she is...I’ve started doing the same thing. Just tell everyone your the best and just work hard. They’ll catch on.
And leave those dope AF sneakers for the rest of us on your way out!
AD2 do you work on McDonald’s?
Everyone here has someone neglected to recognize that OP works at Havas. Havas ain’t no meritocracy. Male or female, black or white, it don’t matter. #DontHateThePlayerHateTheGame
