I’ve read that firms sometimes just want you to stop working same day even if you give two weeks notice. Is this typical/do they pay you for the full weeks?

Yes it happens some times and I would say that if they ask you to leave that day then they wouldn’t pay you the two weeks.

It’s uncommon to ask you to leave on the spot (you have matters you need to transfer), but doubt you would get paid

Recently got in a relationship with this girl for a few weeks and we’ve had our differences because we’re two very different people learning about each other / trying to find a middle ground. She broke up with me last night saying she doesn’t have the emotional energy to dedicate to the relationship and is just walking away instead of putting in the work that a relationship requires. She doesn’t seem like she knows what she wants - after the talk, she said she has strong feelings for me and wjll

A quick word of warning regarding a particular recruiting pitch making the rounds.

Talking with attorneys this week, I've been informed of multiple recruiting calls pitching an opportunity at a certain NY quant fund (I'd rather not mention by name as this is in no way their fault, and they don't deserve to be tarnished). In speaking with our contacts at the quant, I can say unequivocally that this position does not exist.

While the 'bait and switch" is not a new tactic, please be wary.

For those who made the jump from biglaw to midlaw, how long did the recruiting process take? I just started interviewing last week and have a ton more interviews this week, and I’m already exhausted balancing that with a current busy workload. And how many firms did folks apply to/approx how many interviews did you do in total? Trying to get a sense of how long this process is for people.

Hi! I’m a first-year associate working at a large regional firm. I attended a well-ranked, but regional law school and my grades weren’t stellar. School was never very motivating for me, and I put way more effort into internships and networking than my studies during law school. Luckily, I love to network and landed an awesome job at a big firm. Eventually, I’m hoping to work in-house. My question is this, will my grades always follow me? I’ve heard that with time and experience, not so much.
