Start a side hustle. It can be making t-shirts, films, writing a book, whatever you’re passionate about. Try to grow it into a full-time gig. You’ll learn every “job” has aspects you hate, but you also might vastly improve over your current job. But I wouldn’t throw in the towel on your current job until you have a new source of meaningful income.
Thank you for your advice. I feel like I was starting to get there before COVID, and now with everything shut down I am just feeling so isolated with my work again. I am going to try and reimagine new ways to do this from home.
There are some of us fortunate to love what we’re doing. For the majority, you need better outlets. Find out if you need an outlet and go do it. Or, if you really need a full pivot. And as Sr.CW said, go at it hard AF. The challenge doing this for so long, is the money is better than at other creative professions so that becomes the curse you can’t break. Meaning, it’ll be harder to leave. So best know what you want to do now and go pursue it. Find what make you inspired and puts a smile on your face. And if you’re lucky to find that, know what you’ll be better off than most.
I appreciate these words. I spent a lot of time these past few months doing a lot of internal reflection. I think I have a sense of direction and need to explore it deeper. Thanks for taking the time to write this.
(Cont.) how do I leave? How do I find something that excites me? I know I am so fortunate for work, and I intend to stay at this agency until our economy/employment strengthens, but I want to start figuring out what I want to be doing after I leave. I am just not sure what my skills can transfer to. I am just craving a career with more creative expression.

I absolutely agree with senior copywriter. People try to leave this business and they don’t succeed and they come back. You need to come make a complete break and find a completely different profession. Or you will find yourself emailing recruiters or year from now
