I've requested personal time off 3 times in the past month for a well-needed break and I've been denied 3 times because our team is already strained to the limits. This is total BS.

How much pto are you looking for? If they won't agree to even a day then that is a major resume generator.

I would straight up tell your manager you need time off to avoid burnout. Hopefully they will realize that it's better to give you the time and have you come back fresh than to burn you out and inevitably have the quality of your work suffer.

like

Sounds like you need to take permanent time off from your company. Polish up that resume!

I'd start by telling your manager you need to the time off. If they continue to deny the time, then it is time to either go over their heads or go to HR. I would also start looking for another job. (I left my last job because my boss was the sort who would do this.)

like

This definitely shouldn't be affecting you. You should take it up with HR to get the days pushed through for mental health reasons

this is an issue which you should work with your HR partnet

Ouch. Is this a FAANG company, if you don't mind me asking?

That's reason to quit, it's high time to quit.

This sort of situation will absolutely make me quit! My health and peace of mind will not be substituted for anything.

Looking to leave my current role, in industry (engineering/manufacturing) and to get back into big 4 (same firm as well), however I have a 3 month holiday planned from December next year.

Are big 4 pretty lenient on allowing holidays of that length? Especially for boomerangs? Or is it better to come back after the holiday and try then? Thinking that contracting temporarily might be the way to go in the interim.

Full time role with 3 weeks vacation and benefits or contract opportunity with 20k more in potential salary.

Little background, I have been a loyal employee and have only worked at 1 firm for about 6 years now. Looking for more growth and obviously money.

Need some suggestions on what to consider and any pitfalls that I should be aware of.

Tell me if this is selfish or not. I adore my family, but since they're doing a very lowkey Christmas situation this year, I really would rather take a weeks vacation on my own. Obviously the holidays are about spending time with those you love, but I'm tired! And I see my entire family at least once a month for a group dinner. This may be an unpopular opinion.

But I think it's kinda shitty that when FAANG people get laid off, everyone feels bad for them and they get so many resources to get rehired, but the same is not true for people that get laid off at smaller lesser known organizations.

Like those FAANG people will be fine, they got generous severance packages. The people who actually need help often get overlooked or are forgotten.
