Is there any ongoing hiring freeze in B4?
I have an interview for a TPM role that I didn't technically apply to (my resume got passed along). I work in a technical environment but dont have a technical background. Do I actually have a real shot??
How technical are TPM roles? I know how to talk to technical people but not make technical decisions myself. Amazon Project Kuiper.

Working across time zones can be pretty tough and it’s hard to find something that works for everyone. If they are recurring meetings, I would suggest asking if the meeting can alternate times every other call, so that some of them you are taking after hours, and some times they are after hours. Of course, it depends how many there are in those time zones vs how many people are in your time zone. If there are 10 in Europe and 1 of you, that may be a harder negotiation..
Can these meetings be an email?

Just don’t do any work in the day time. Take a 3 hour nap, cook some lunch, chill. Make everyone think you’re working straight through.
This is really easy to do with WFH
Eventually you can also schedule some automatic emails to be sent during the weekend so they will think you are working on we too
Is it possible to flex your day? I was in that groove for a while too.

Work 6am to 2pm if that works for you. You don't need to burn the candle on both ends. If they have a global team and need coverage, they need to hire and pay accordingly.
You’ve just gotta say no. They’ve got to compromise and work unsociable hours. Spread the pain. Take back your life! Good luck 🤞🏽
When I did this (years in consulting) I just made it clear that I would cover Mon - Thursday but not working on Fridays. Leadership agreed and supported.

I would say this, or M-W one week and M-Th the next. They can have that 7/10 work days but you can’t do that 10/10. And jeebus who needs to have daily meetings, really? Reevaluate that approach, everyone. All yall. Now. So over it.
You are responsible for setting your own boundaries and communicating what a sustainable schedule/pace is. It sounds like your scrum master or talent manager isn’t aware or isn’t proactively advocating for you which is not uncommon. You are and always will be your best advocate. When communicating your availability to them I recco including a screenshot showing the overlapping time zones using worldtimebuddy.com. Visuals help communicate the point that the pace is unsustainable. Also include your proposed solution which could be committing to continue for another two weeks until they can backfill project A or B, or changing your role on one of the projects. Good luck.

I like this comments about sustainability vs hard work. That’s a great perspective to take.

Why do you personally have to be on both calls? Can you rotate weekly with a teammate?

I agree I need to learn how to distribute responsibility across the team more equitably so that I have some breathing room. I’m going to work on this aspect of the job.
This was me last year with teams in Australia and Japan and teams in Europe. It was hell. I pretty much just told my boss I’m starting later on certain days to catch up on rest and would also take workout breaks during the day to avoid losing more time in my evening..
Workout mid day sounds like a good idea.
I don't have answers but I feel for you. I have a project right now where in our ridiculous convoluted process, we have to include a stakeholder in Asia. Meaning 7/8am or 7/8pm meetings only. I did not join the global team for a reason...
In my case I'm looking to leave anyways so I'm hoping to only have to suffer another month of this.
Not to be rude but you signed up to work at Deloitte. What did you expect? This comes with with the territory of working for one of the worlds most prestigious firms with the most diverse global clients. Be thankful for the opportunities and learnings.

We hire Deloitte for some of our projects though haha
I had this situation for 6 months until I found a new job.
I wonder if organizations that people people in this situation expect them to burn out eventually….is it planned, or do they hope you’re just going to last longer than the last person?
Something similar happened to me and that’s when I finally quit biglaw
I feel you. I was in a similar situation for a year or so. Find any way possible to get out. Projects involving japan is typically a drag
Just withdrew my candidacy for a role with a French company 🤣
When you don’t have control, you either shut up and bear it, or quit.
The choice between the 2 is determined by the amount of commitment you have to the cause.

The #2 regret of the "Top 5 regrets of the dying" book, is "I wish I never worked so hard."
The traditional life of a work existence makes no sense, and unfortunately, it is taking a pandemic to accelerate a reversal of this thinking.
Work ethic is important, and working hard is too, but not to the extent that it is #1 above all else. Prioritize Friends/Family. Enjoy life. Build each other up. Take Vacations. Live.
