Has anyone else ever dated a coworker?
I spent three years working my butt off for a fairly small brick and mortar. I left because I got sick, but still did what I could to train my replacement. Once she was trained, I never heard from the company I had helped build again. Do what's best for you, not what's best for the company.
In my opinion commitment is a beautiful thing, but it must be accompanied with recognition, if you feel something is lacking, I recommend you talk it over with your direct superior, if that doesn't work look elsewhere for another option. We all deserve to be recognized for our work.
I understand you pain. I have been with my company for several years now and at one location. I loved it there and I really held the store together but I was stuck in a title that limited my role and pay but had the skill and knowledge to move on. The store was wonderful about giving me opportunities to grow and take on new task but they couldn’t just create a position for me so I was stuck. I recently moved and have gotten multiple promotions in the past few months at a new location and it’s been an amazing opportunity for me. I still get regular text, calls, and emails from my old store and help them out anyway I can and I really miss them but I had to do what was best for me.
This might sound like an ignorant question, but are you sure you would really want all that extra responsibility? In my company at least, the supervisors and assistant managers make a pretty decent wage. And since I'm at the top level in my department, whenever someone calls in sick, guess who gets to scramble to look for a replacement at the last minute? And if a replacement cannot be found, who has to come in (even if it's in the middle of the night and we're expecting a big shipment that someone needs to sign for)? Yep, that's me! I think assistant managers kinda have it made. Grass is greener I guess?
I've been with the same company for over 20 years, and seen so many people come and go that I couldn't even name half of them. Each one of them has been important in my day-to-day life while we were working together (even those that I didn't really like, I still had to rely on them). So it's always a big adjustment when someone leaves, but everyone will make that adjustment, they'll be fine one way or another; and some of them might feel better about leaving if they already have one foot out the door but don't want to seem disloyal. Move forward with your life, whatever that means to you. The universe has a way of sorting things out in the end
