I’ve worked at a firm for a year, not happy with the salary, training or culture. How soon is too soon to start looking for a different job?

It’s never too soon if you aren’t happy.

IMO, one year is just right. It can take about 2-3 months to land the right position, and I’ve seen - lot of my former classmates make official moves around the 1.3-1.5 mark.

No, I don’t think so.

I started looking 6 months in. I got an offer a year later (2020 🙄). I’m waiting for conflicts to clear and I’m out. I’ve been at my firm 1.5 years now and knew about 2 months in it wasn’t a good fit.

I think looking after a year is perfect. I’ve been at my firm for a year and a half and I’ve been unhappy pretty much the whole time. I started looking for a new job about a month ago and just got my first interview. The process takes time so you should get started if you’re unhappy.

Does anyone have any advice on how to figure out what the average multiplier for billable hours is in a certain city? If this isn’t clear, I’ll receive x ($) times (the difference between my max billable hours and my min) as my yearly bonus. I know what number my firm uses but was told it’s been the same for years. I’d love to advocate for a raise with numbers reflecting averages in our city but have no idea how to find this information. Thanks!

There was a similar post here recently, but I am currently in the same boat. (I’m also torn because it’s a difference of $2k/month after taxes) 1. Boring work at start up with a toxic environment (no WLB, etc) for just over $200k base + bonus + equity 2. Solid work at an award-winning shop (and WLB) with a team you dig, trust, and have worked with before for $150K

A recruiter reached out to me directly from IBM Canada to interview for a Cloud Support Senior Program Manager role. I’ve got just under 10 years of professional work experience - 2 and half as a PM and have worked vendor before. I also have my PMP and disciplined agile certs. Can anyone give me insight on this role and what could be comp? I’m in Toronto and also wanted to know the culture and crowd.

Received a job offer that was same title and pay. After hearing more about the position, I felt that it was more senior. Asked if they were open to bringing me on as a senior, and they happily agreed….. except when I got the new offer, it was still the original salary lol. I don’t want to come off as greedy, but this feels odd. I really love the place and the people I’ve met, but this gives me doubts

Currently talking to recruiters for a new job and it is honestly such a turnoff when they talk too much about having a strong company culture and/or talking about making sure I'm a good fit culturally. For me that borders on culty and is a red flag. I would much rather hear from a recruiter that a workplace's "culture" is that they are accepting of all cultures, diversity, and personality types.

I am looking to gain certification or other credentialing in diversity and inclusion, not only because it would look good on my resume both for future job-search purposes and also to become better educated in this area, which is growing in importance. I looked at SHRM's "Inclusive Workplace Culture Specialty Credential" and got a bit of "sticker shock" at the cost - $1,655.00 for members. Does anyone have other suggestions on training/credentialing in this area?

Hey Fb friends - need an advise. My current firm hasn’t stated my GC process yet and with current processing time it appears to be somewhere around 12-15 months time to get PERM approved. In addition my current firm needs leadership approval & they make me sign a reimbursement form in case I quit. On other hand, I have approved i40 from my ex-employer (Big4) who fired me last fall, I don’t know if they will hire me back. Since I am from India and the date of filing appears like going to be…cont.
