I’ve worked at Deloitte a little bit less than a year, and while I’ve liked it enough thus far, I’m beginning to feel unfulfilled and underutilized. Is it too early to start thinking about trying to get a more competitive consulting job, and would that even be feasible? While I have a unique education/background, Deloitte is my only consulting experience, as I previously was in government and academic research.

I just left a consulting job (also my first consulting experience) for this reason. It wasn’t really possible to move to another project and my skills were somewhat divergent from focus areas of the firm so I started questioning my career path there anyway. I also felt I was brought in at too low a level compared to my experience, with the rationale that I didn’t have any consulting experience. I hope you can work something out, but sometimes you just have to bounce.

no shame in looking for a more challenging job, though id also recommend you to share your feelings with your manager in the meantime. if nothing changes then yea jump ship

yea i know what you mean. i thought id damage my relationships with my soon to be former company for a similar reason but as long as you can handle the separation professionally, they will understand and continue to respect your decision. at the end of the day, your company can also terminate you whenever they want. business is business

Will it hurt me in the long run to have comms experience in different industries? FWIW, my internships were all fashion PR and I didn't think I'd be in tech.

Hey guys! What a great app and space! I’ve been wondering how long I should hang onto this technical recruiter role at 55k salary plus commission . I love my team, the resources and training , PTO, etc… but, I’m underpaid for sure. I got involved with this agency for the training and notoriety. When should I jump ship and which way should I go to make the most $$$ with work/life balance. ??? I know it’s a broad topic without more specs but general answers will do. Thanks!

Hi!
I am curious as to how people respond to the “what are your career goals and interests”. I’m not sure how to articulate what those are and would love advise. The one thing I know is that I want to steer away from project management/admin stuff and do more technical/hands on work. I have a background in environmental science and do QC checks and database management (I find it uninteresting). I feel like I am stagnant in my skills and not learning anymore, and want more science heavy stuff.

What would you do? I was laid off and now have two directions:
1) Back to old job in industry with security and knowing what I’m getting/how to do the job well/job security but $15k reduction in salary plus nominal API still working 60+ hrs a week...
2) Consulting again at big 4 but don’t know team and threat of unpredictability/more layoffs but $25k increase in salary.
Frankly feeling torn. Also, yes, I realize how great it is to have options these days.
