I’ve worked at EY for 1 year as an auditor making $53k. I just got a job offer for a consulting position that would pay me $85k. Would I be crazy not to take it?

More info- I’ve enjoyed my time at EY but don’t see myself lasting past senior as I hate busy season passionately. This new job would also pay a yearly bonus around 7% and would be in a higher COL region.

If you hate busy seasons which us a few months of the year, all the best with consulting and busy seasons all year round!

If you envision yourself doing this job then do it. You will acquire and learn more if you enjoy your job.

Honestly, the benefit of staying within EY is that (if they are doing the same as pwc) digital and tech are probably a huge focus now and there are tremendous opportunities to build consulting skills within that realm without the scrutiny of being a “consultant”. You might lose some money in the short term but I can attest that I’ve been able to gain a tremendous amount of skills and bring value far beyond what I was capable of if I had switched to consulting vs taking advantage of digital and the firms current investment in it.

funny

That’s why I said 85k is fire haha

like

I literally JUST did this - moved from 58K to 83K, to a higher COL, but still like the decision

like

I agree seems like your mind is already made up so go for it at least you know that PA isn’t for you

What you feel now if you know you do not like PA will only get amplified sure you will get more experience if at what cost

Looking to transfer into a client associate role (unregistered at the moment, but willing to obtain). Currently have ~1.5 YOE in valuation (financial statement analysis, modeling, etc.) I get that those skills could be unrelated to a CSA role, but I think there could be some similarities. Does anyone happen to have a referral or can anyone give DM me some insight into what a CSA role would look like? I appreciate it.

With promo reviews coming up, I expect to receive a promotion, but want to have another offer to inflate my salary a bit more. Anybody have insight on the timing and general do/don’t?

Does anyone else just not even want to be a people manager anymore?! The amount of work this is taking, I’m just so over it. In addition to them piling on my work (which is a full time job) the people management stuff is just as much a full time job that no one in management seems to take into account. I have tried countless times to explain this but I end up burnt out, everyone suffers including me. I just left one role bc of it and now this new role, same thing. I’m over it.

Solid tips or strategies on cutting back on alcohol? My bf & I were moderate drinkers before the pandemic, but over the year I’m fairly confident we’ve become heavy drinkers (6-7days/wk). I find it rly difficult to go cold turkey or cut by myself when he’s still drinking as “normal” and we share our living space. We’re aware of all the health risks, but that alone hasn’t changed us. Let me tell you, I love the flexibility at my firm, OK pay, and I do a great job, and am comfortable pushing back when I have too much work . BUT managers are terrible at planning and recently end up putting me in preventable situations where I need to work 55 hrs or have the staff work the 55 hours. I literally cannot since I have a family and my daughter is only in day care a few hours a day, I'm already doing my max work. Is it crazy that I may want to leave Bc I hate making ppl miserable?
