I’m also leaning out of my career for the next few years and understand the guilt. I just remind myself that our version of “cruising” is not at all cruising by any normal standard haha. Still a high earner compared to the typical American household. Can also lean back whenever you decide it’s time to. You can’t get these years back with your littles but you have tons of time to focus on your career once they are bigger.

Thank you so much - this is exactly what I needed to hear. Husband keeps telling me that I can return to the crazy startup life if I really miss it a year later, but I part of me still kept feeling guilty(???) for leaving it behind. I am sure that this new job will be demanding in other ways, and I'll be able to challenge myself. Good luck to you as well!! We got this!

So true!! Thank you for the encouragement!!

This is a great career move either way! Now you won't be pigeonholed into startups and get a great feel for other career paths 😊 the more time you spend with your kids, the cuter they are (and the more they drive you NUTS)

Yes!!! You are totally right. Thank you for sharing your perspective!

I was working as a Corp Controller at a PE owned company and working a ton (55-70 hrs per week year round). There was a lot of room for advancement but I was burnt out. I took a job as a AVP of actg for a large public company and love it. I know my role and work 40 hrs most weeks with 50 occasionally (5ish weeks out of the year). It is a different industry so I still feel like I’m learning and not bored. I’m hoping to be promoted to VP this year. Bottom line, It doesn’t have to mean boring and end to career progression.

Happy for you!! Thanks for the encouragement!

I’ve been through 5+ weeks of interviews with a company that will IPO next year and they did a bait and switch on me with the offer: it was advertised as “Head of” and then during the offer-walk-through-meeting today they said “oh btw we changed the title to ‘Senior Manager’ for this role”. They offered me a salary I made 4 years ago as a manager. They offered stock options with an exercise price TBD 1 year from now…which is when they’re hitting IPO. Is that normal for stock options?
