I’ve worked with two junior (but ambitious) account women in the past year whose boyfriends don’t like for them to travel so they don’t go on shoots. Or they go minimally. How is this a thing?

My boyfriend didn’t like when I traveled for work either. So, now he’s my ex boyfriend.

the real question is why anyone in 2018 would allow their partner to dictate terms that would limit your achievement. Grow up ladies!

My ex husband had the same opinion.

Part of the job description; unacceptable. Plus it’s fun!

I’m traveling for work next week literally during my boyfriend’s bday but he loves and supports me so he wants me to go, as he should! I ordered a cookie cake and a bunch of balloons to be delivered to his work while I’m gone :)

Agree that it’s either an excuse or these women have their priorities out of order. Since when does your significant other’s preference on your whereabouts supersede your professional duties? I smell something fishy in this bowl.

I get missing a boyfriends birthday being upsetting but in this case it’s just unhealthy controlling behavior and clearly they don’t respect their careers and these girls don’t have the confidence to leave these losers.

like

Wth. That must be an excuse to not go, and if it’s not then just wow.

like

@director why would anyone not want to travel when it’s literally part of their job?

like

This is definitely ‘a thing’. It is hard for a partner/boyfriend to understand the need for travel when they aren’t in a role where they travel themselves. My partner only eased up on it AFTER he got a role where he traveled a lot for work, now it’s much more equitable but it was almost always a fight when it came to extended trips (shoots, etc.)

like

It’s not. You sure they aren’t just using this as an excuse not to travel?

Are they really allowing this? To be controlled? I wouldn't think so...sounds like an excuse. At least I hope so.

I was gone for my spouse’s birthday the first year we were married and he was perfectly happy with the stale cupcake i bought at the airport. He supports me 100% at all times. If your partner doesn’t you’re with the wrong person!! Tell ‘em OP

This summer BBs wrapped up SA IB recruitment, EBs even earlier, and a fair amount of my friends missed out big time. Also, if a sophomore or junior doesn’t get a finance-related summer internship (I.e tech) and aims for an IB SA or FT position, is it harder to break in? Appreciate any advice and insight, thank you.
