JL associate here! I can’t speak to FP or Littler (except that 2 friends left Littler miserable but don’t know details) for your comparison questions but… In my experience tons of my associate colleagues have left for great in-house jobs and Big Law firms. There have been a handful of cool secondment opportunities lately too. The market is clearly hot right now, but there seems to be good upward mobility options. I don’t believe all of the offices are identical but mine has a 1850 hours requirement (50 can be BD, CLE, etc.). If you want to get a real bonus, you’ll have to hit closer to 2000. My experience with management is better than any of my prior 2 firms and they’ve really emphasized being “off” while on vacation or on the weekends to the extent possible. However, there are always going to be some great partners to work for and those I prefer to avoid. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of practice areas given it’s an L&E firm (e.g., data privacy, etc.) and JL seems happy to let you tailor your work how you want for your career. Hope this helps!

Also a JL associate! I totally agree with A2. I’m in a smaller market and the WLB is amazing. Definitely not making true big law money, but getting paid six figures, liking the people I work with, and not working late or weekends often really has been great for me. Of course with such a big firm with tons of offices, experiences vary per office. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions!

FP associate currently and each office is very different. Hours - 1850 plus 150 BD hours so 2000 total. Mix of insurance and private cases depending on which office.

Random thought. Many teachers live and die by their whiteboards, and that means dry erase markers are essential classroom supplies. Far more expensive than the chalk I started with, but I digress. I feel like the only person on the planet who prefers bullet-tip markers to the standard chisel tip. I am particularly fond of the Pilot refillables, despite their limited colors. Anyone else care to share their marker thoughts on markers and the merits of chisel tips vs bullet?
