Was the CEO Japanese? English as 2nd, 3rd, or 4th language? Is it possible their accent made you mishear what was said? Is it possible that “they” was a grammatical error? Or maybe they do indeed believe foreigners and women need to try harder. The foreigner part is acceptable considering Japanese work ethic.

Pretty sure judging an entire country or race’s culture is just racist. But yes, the CEO referenced was well out of order, and I have witnessed appalling racism in Japan from several people.

I’ve always heard stories that Japanese work culture is quite horrible especially if you’re a foreigner. I thought they were exaggerating

How do you tow the fine line between sticking up for yourself and not talking back to a partner? For context, our firm has seemingly started making a paper trail for layoffs and I disagree with some of the emails that I have received. I want to respond in a way that covers my own ass. What would you do?

Your teammate with the same title and pay as you is at your desk all the time for help. I'm definitely open to helping - but sometimes "help" is basically the whole job - it feels like I'm doing both jobs lol and it almost feels unfair that we both get paid the same or very close (Colorado, so pay transparency). The teammate has been with the company for longer than me.
