I worked over 10 in industry and it was far more challenging than consulting — texts all the time asking about the numbers or a million other details, the politics, the pressure to meet some pretty difficult targets, the people issues....consulting is a lot easier as you can end a project and go on to something new if it’s not ideal - eventually it will end

Yeah tell us more! I do believe the same, given I have friends in industry hopping around looking for something fulfilling

Tell us more pls!!!

There are a ton of politics one has to navigate. Managers have high expectations (some of which weren't feasible) and unecessarily picky due to undefined end states. Everything can be disorganized and you end up either constantly chasing people or being pulled into fire drills. It can also be difficult to pursue something that is remotely outside of your role.

Hi All, I need some suggestions. I am currently working in a Big 4 post my MBA from tier 2 IIM college as consultant but the work is pure PMO work which I am doing right now. I am completely confused about my career track and have no idea whether the PMO work will help me or not in long run. Not sure about the exit opportunities from this role? And what if I keep doing this pmo work, where will I land up? I wish to transit into a product manager or may be program manager role.

Newly promoted experienced hire SC making $113k, 10 YOE (switched industries). Got an offer from TCS in an Advisory practice (not the tech sweatshop stuff that I keep seeing people mention). Base salary is $190k and in TCS equivalent of a M role. Downside to taking the salary hike and boomeranging back to D in ~2 years? FYI - I have 2 kids, so that kind of pay raise is kind of a big deal.

Ethical question: would you try to negotiate a raise in current job if you know you’re actively looking elsewhere? Context: had an incredibly challenging year with a huge project that completed successfully. Extremely complex tasks and long hours. Got an award for “disruption” but in summary, the role evolved and now I want to ask for market adjustment /as well as merit raise. I also hate what I do at the moment and can’t wait to leave, but might take months. Should I still ask for a raise?
