No 401k at all? I believe it’s required in many states

Its not in US, I’m relocating to Asia

Watch out for foreign pension plans. They are a doozy to report for tax purposes and you may not get any tax benefits on the US side depending on country and treaty. Same goes for foreign mutual funds - US tax nightmare and potentially taxed at the highest rates. Oof.

What are some subtle red flags to pass on working for a company/team?

One example was a panel of interviewers at a top tech company within FAANG (is it MAANG now?) constantly rubbing their temples in a stressful manner when talking about their day to day… Another was an interviewer telling me that the leader disregards other’s calendars, senior or not, because they should trust that whatever meeting she has is important… so thoughts?

I wish I wasn’t adaptable. Humans aspire for a greater level of comfort and once achieved, adopt that as their new baseline. Because of this, somebody making $100k cannot simply comfortably revert back to a $50k lifestyle. The slow growth of personal wealth isn’t noticed as ideated. Instead, we are never satisfied.

Can you relate? Has your salary / net worth growth dramatically improved your quality of life?

Hello Fb! I'm 30 yrs old. I'm trying to figure out and plan my life to set myself up for success in the future. I wish I had known things like enrolling in a high deductible health plan at 24 when I started work so that I could enroll in a HSA for the triple tax savings or the importance of maxing out a Roth IRA or maxing out a 401K and not just to the employer match. What are some things you wish you had known earlier or by age 30? In some ways, I feel like I'm late in the game. See more 👇🏻

I’d love to retire by 35. I know about the 25x expenses rule for a 4% withdrawal rate, but how does that account for 401ks that I can’t access until my 50’s? What about real estate?

I’m 26.
•$150k in 401k/IRA
•$220k in real estate (excl. primary)
•$88k in cash/brokerage
• the rest in HSA/primary home/other.

To calculate FIRE, am I only looking at the $88k that I can access readily? Real estate is cash flowing, but not sure how/if to factor in the equity.

Thanks in advance!

Anybody know any good books/sources on couples finance or balancing financial mentalities? I have a personal finance mentality or character that is save as much as possible, spend as little on myself as possible, spend mainly on things that could appreciate in value. Whereas my gf is all about treating oneself, and living very comfortably, even if it is not sustainable. It doesn't help as well that I make 3-4x what she makes.
