If you have a big ass, don’t get Hugo Boss. FYI.

Neither.

Ralph Lauren has nice, reasonably priced suits.

Def neither. So so many better options.

I love the Ted Baker suits on sale from Nordstrom, always pick some up during their sales ~450… I’m pretty slim 5’9 30” W and they are also the only ones who need not as much tailoring done

Boss if you’re skinny. Armani if you’re not. Go to Sak’s off 5th if you’re a junior associate.

Check the Nordstrom annual sale (I think it starts in a couple weeks) can usually get designer suits - Hugo boss type - for $700 and they will typically tailor them for free

Pretty sure Indochino (unless something has changed since i gave them a try a couple years ago) uses fused construction in their suits (look this up). They can “customize” your suits but you will begin to see bubbling in them after wearing them and dry cleaning them frequently.

My advice is to find a local menswear merchant/tailor that has a good reputation and well-sourced materials and buy some of their off the rack suits with tailoring. You can beat the prices at a large department store (Nordstrom) and get an insanely high quality suit for a good price. It’s what I do and I will never buy another suit from a large retailer again. It takes some time to find them but it’s worth it.

Unless you care about the label, then ya just go to Nordstrom et al.

It really depends on the market. I’m in a Midwest city and found a third generation tailor who sources all of his off the rack suits from NYC and overseas suppliers. The quality is unreal (better than Hugo Boss suit I’ve had) and it only cost me $500. He has sales sometimes too that I picked up suits for $375. His bespoke options are certainly expensive and start at at least $1200, but that’s something I’ll explore once I have a reason to treat myself haha.

It takes a little more time and effort to find someone like this, but it’s so worth it when you do. Good quality + great tailoring will beat the shit out of a mass produced label suit from a retailer.

If you use Reddit search out the menswear subreddits. They are a wealth of info on menswear and it will open your eyes as to what to look for in your suiting needs.

Haven’t used Indochino but I’ve gotten two from SuitSupply which I think is a similar thing, and am very pleased with them so far.

Can confirm - I’ve only purchased pants from Indochino, but have purchased 5+ suits from SuitSupply. SuitSupply’s quality is far, far superior. No question. SuitSupply is probably a little more expensive for most things, but get on their e-mail list and you’ll get a private e-mail link for their sales (which are rare, but approx 1-2 times/year). You’ll have to act quickly (because the inventory during the sales goes very fast), but I’ve gotten some incredible steals on their suits, sweaters, and coats.

Spier & MacKay if you already have a decent idea of your sizing

Suit Supply if you have no idea (go into one of their stores and have their people size you)

Whatever you get, the most important thing is to get it tailored.

I pick up every time there’s a sale at Saks. You can usually get Armani for ~$700 per or less

What kind of law do you practice and in what market? If BigLaw in a large market, don't go to either.

Indochino has become a lot better over the years but is still pretty poor quality, even for the price. You're better off paying the premium for Suit Supply as a baseline. If you can afford it, try to get a proper tailor to make bespoke suits or, at the very least, find a good alterations expert who can alter off-the-rack suits. Then pick up a few good suits from Nordstrom or Saks and get them altered to fit.

As for brands to consider, it really depends on your body type. Find the brands that fit you best off-the-rack and then stick with them, getting alterations as needed.

Suitsupply or Spier and Mackay

For anyone who goes to Indochino, why is it worth the extra ~$200? For anyone who goes to Jos. A. Banks, why would you rather save the money?

Please do not buy from Jos A. Banks unless you want to look like the Plaintiff’s bar…

Hi, after doing project and program management for 6 years I joined EY GDS last year with high hopes. I was asked to assist another project manager and soon I realised that nothing is done on the name of project management in majority of the projects. It's just about charging as many hours as we can to the client. Not even basic project management is followed. Projects are undertaken and wrapped up somehow. So I am planning to move out and need help for referrals.

I’m lateraling to a firm in a new jurisdiction on Monday and negotiated a decent pay increase a few months ago (new jurisdiction has significantly higher income taxes so negotiated based on a comparable net pay). My old firm has just announced it is increasing salaries by around 15% which will almost negate what I negotiated at new firm. New firm doesn’t review salaries till September. What’s the best/most efficient way to delegate work to more junior associates? One of my goals this year is to get better at delegation, for my own sanity and as a necessary skill. Up until now, I was the most junior person on most of my cases. That’s no longer true.

In particular, I’m having some issues properly delegating work to very junior associates who are still learning and a little slow.

(Why yes, I was definitely the person who did the entire group project myself in school...)
