First off, for someone to ask you to be a mentor.. that is a pat on the back. You are doing the right thing already.
👍🏻👍🏻
The best mentors have helped me answer the question “what do I want to do in my career” not just what are my strengths and interests. And then helped me figure out what experience I need and what I need to learn and work on to achieve my goals. This is very different than honing strengths and promoting quickly. The best mentors have helped me think past the annual review and the next promotion cycle and think about what I want to do in 5, 10 years, even what I want to retire doing.
That’s good perspective around the long term career guidance. Thanks for sharing M3!
Secret sauce: care
For sure!
The best mentors I’ve had make time to answer the larger questions about consulting or the firm. Also they should be a good sounding board for ideas and issues they are having.
You’re a Sr Manager, how is people development not already a part of your job description.
Great response @SM1. Very thorough.
