It takes nothing, nothing, to say ‘thank you’ and make someone feel seen. Did your team work all weekend? Say ‘thank you,’ and mean it. Did someone make you look good during today’s meeting? Say ‘thank you.’ It does nothing to detract from your position when you show gratitude. But, funny, how respect diminishes when you don’t make the effort.
