Just came into large sum of cash that we won’t need for at least ten years. It represents about 15% of our total assets, with the other 85% divided into fixed rate assets (50%), real estate (20%) and ETFs (15%). What would you do with this money? Stick it all at once into 2-3 ETFs (e.g. VOO, VGT, VTI)., dollar cost average into these funds, invest in individual stocks?

How old are you? If the answer is less than ~60 you are way over indexed in fixed income. I would put 100% of it into diversified low cost ETFs to begin to balance things out. You can DCA if you want but likely won’t matter over this time horizon.

Assume you’re maxing 401k, Roth, 529 and all the usual tax advantaged vehicles?

Pick SPLG, SCHD, or FTEC and chill.

1. If your current allocation is appropriate for you then invest the lump sum in the same allocation.

2. Investing it right away will be most optimal from long term standpoint but behaviorally lump sum can be scary. If you can’t stomach a drop then spread them out in 2 or 3 investments but within a 6 to 9 month period. #2 is just to avoid anxiety with lump sum investment.

I’m almost done with my MBA but I’ll have to take out a loan to pay the last bit of it. I’ve paid about $30k out of pocket and I’ll have $18k that I’ll have to take a loan out for. I have a brokerage account that has $10k in it. Would it make sense to pull that money out to pay for the majority of what I have left or to just get a loan? I’m meeting with my FA in the summer but am just curious for other opinions. Keep in mind I make $53k and I have a 401k, Roth IRA, and traditional IRA as well.

Newer to the game compared to many of you, trying to decide if splitting 401k contribution between traditional and Roth is worth it.
Let’s assume I am not in a higher income tax bracket at retirement (current base is 100). Is it still worth it to split contributions between Roth or traditional (6% trad to get match, rest would be Roth)? Some different proportion split? TIA.

I joined mindtree in Jan 2022. Suddenly there is a 10k deduction in salary in the month of April. The salary slip say 10k deduction as INCOME TAX.
Mindtree says "You come under 20% slab according to the income tax calculations. When all the tax slabs are applied you will have to pay yearly tax around Rs. X amount. So that amount will be deducted in monthly basis."
Why sudden income tax deduction? Why was that not deducted in the month of Jan Feb March ?
How can i recover that 10k every month?

Hi all, I am early in my career in Tech. 23 years old but very concerned with CA rising housing cost. I’m based out in the Walnut Creek area but understand that houses go 2Million+ in the Bay. Thoughts on getting whole life insurance and taking a loan out against around age 35? Thinking I can leverage an aggressive savings approach this way and use the FHA loan. Any ideas? Pros/Cons to this?

Recently promoted Partner. Gross comp jumped from 240k to 325k. Month to month net cash, I actually might be making less than I did as a Director with the transition from w2 to k1, taxes, capital loan payback, etc. But overall should come back positive once I get paid the 10% hold back in 2024. Was your month to month cash flow situation similar as a first yr partner?

My father took a home loan, and the same home is kept as mortgage.
I'm paying arround 22k emi for the same but unable to exempt tax as the loan is on my father's name.

I googled a lot how to transfer it but neither gift deed nor sale deed would work as the property is on mortgage that's under bank's ownership (until loan is fulfilled).
Tax is also getting deducted, I'm paying hefty emis.
What can I do?
Please advise 🙂
