I have a question, fellow bowlaz! I work in a small advertising agency in Oslo, Norway, and we struggle to get in contact with international ad media such as Adweek (Ad Freak) and Ad Age whenever we want to show off our creative work. Does anyone of you have a way in, or tips on how we can get in contact with media outlets like these? Cheers

There was a call for advisory on Friday where Carl said plainly “kpmg doesn’t expect you to go to the office or get on a plane if it causes you any discomfort” also “this has been communicated to service leaders and their teams. If you get any pushback go to them, or reach out to me directly” (likely not verbatim, but the sentiment is absolutely correct).
I’m not sure of your situation but the firm seems to have a pretty clear position.
M3, that is correct. How will they know if it’s not reported? Carl was blunt about this.
This doesn’t seem right after all the emails we got. If you are advisory, Carl definitely said to let him know if you were being made to travel or even go into the office. Lynne’s email late Friday night was basically telling people to work where you feel comfortable so I think you need to raise this.
While I was critical of KPMG’s early steps, the communications/decisions on Friday were pretty good.
The head of advisory said to reach out to him personally if “management” isn’t on the level.
Partner’s exact words: "it’s all about optics”
Smart partner. I’d stick with him
What a crapshoot this firm has become

Marine Corps reservist here. I find it funny that the Marine Corps cancelled all travel, yet KPMG still pushes. I guess we’ve lost our fighting spirit lol. Semper Fi?
I forgot about those videos until now, lmao they made it sound the audits won the war
I would tell my partner no. I know that’s easier said that done, but it’s just not acceptable to be traveling right now unless it is truly critical
I agree. To clarify, there are a few critical reasons one might travel right now, and none of those apply to our jobs as consultants.
Why didn’t you report it like Carl instructed? They would have stopped it and spoken to the partner.
Health or layoffs, pick your poison.
Health. I will go find another job.
I don’t believe you
Do not get on the flight. Period. Do not go. You do NOT have to do this.
I’ll take your place!
Totally agree with the failure of firm leadership. My client had to tell us not to come because the Partner leading the project was having us still travel.
Feel for you OP. i am asked to go visit a local client on Monday and likely there for a week. But I m in NYC. The subway is even worse than travel.
Incidents like this bring out the worst and best in people. Your project leadership is an indication into the company culture and a telltale into what your next steps should be. Any leader who puts dollars ahead of employee health is an a-hole!
What if you said no?

OP:
Hate to say this but you are enabling the situation put forth by this partner, by giving in to their directives.
You need to stand firm and let them know that you are not comfortable traveling, and that you will not be traveling.
Report it if you still get push back. Don’t be so weak!
Did you talk to the partner?
Most clients I’ve talked too are appreciating that we are cancelling travel over putting more people at risk
Can totally relate to this. Dreading to go to a client office tomorrow in a city with more than 100 cases, no direction from the manager yet and the entire team is planning to travel.
That’s not enough. Do you know how many people lack enough courage to say no? Or fear how that will be perceived if the rest of team complies? It’s shameful. Decisive leadership and blanket policy is in order.
My partner dismissed me when I brought up us working from home until I mentioned how much our reputation would be tarnished if our client found out that we brought the virus into their headquarters. He quickly changed his position and we are now working from home.
Your partner might not be thinking in that POV
