Just curious as a non-creative - how do creative partners usually get paired up?

Essentially an arranged marriage most of the time

More often than not, at random. At least in the beginning. What’s great is you can always look to bring a former partner in and really talk up how well you worked together. Win-win-win

like

A lot of different ways. It’s pretty haphazard usually, but creatives try to find their way to or back to people they like working with and make good work with.

Sometimes they go through school together

The first one in ad school

The current one after working with a few different partners in the agency until we decided that we liked working together and asked to be teamed up

My first one was "random" but turns out a friend from ad school had been interviewing at the same time at the same place and we got paired up with each other.

Next one at a new agency was a solo AD who needed a partner. As part of the interview process I went on a "partner date" with him and we got along and boom.

We were the only juniors at the time

Confidence shook! Help! Career coach hired, but I was told by a HH my chronological resume should be re-worked into a functional resume. I’ve been with my firm since 2003, in my current dept since 2011 with a few promotions since, but the job didn’t change that much as my title grew except for more $$. My mental health has taken a toll & the WLB hasn’t been very balanced at all in recent years. I need to get out & haven’t really looked for a job in almost 20 years.

I keep getting contract offers on LinkedIn (think self-employed consultant). The rates seem really good ($120-$150/hr). I have around 5 years exp and a CISSP. I’m highly considering leaving big4 to become a contractor/self-employed consultant. From a risk perspective I’m young and have no kids and low debt.
Anyone did it? Any feedback?

Hi ladies!

After years of hard work, I just got my first position in a leadership role! Yay! I’ll be leading a team of 12.
I wanted to know if you had any tips for me, things you wish you knew before, or things previous leaders did for/to you that you found admirable or stayed with you. I want to make sure I’m there for them and want to be a leader they will remember positively.

Thank you so much!!

I turned down offers from a number of places over a year ago and now they're thriving. No one is inviting me in this time around. Airbnb: $450k at the time -> $1.2M now, Snap: $450k -> $780k now, Doordash $380k -> $700k now. I'm still at $500k TC where I'm at. Don't always play safe guys.

Is it normal for a start-up to be super vague and keep setting up meetings to get to know you but gives you bare minimum details about them?

I had a start-up reach out to me and after a few meetings I have barely been able to get any information about them. I don't know name, size, or anything but a vague description about what they offer (don't even know what role they would want me in). Is this normal or am I right to be annoyed?

During the VMAs last night there was a car commercial and all I have to say is that if your brand is picking a 5 year old Sia song that didn’t even chart too well as a song for a NEW commercial, you need to tap into culture a little bit.

I’m begging for a world where we stop using songs like this and Roar by Katy Perry as the standard backing tracks for boring ads.

A former colleague reached out and asked me to connect him with my account rep at Google and Twitter for a new professional venture, but he no longer works on the account in question. (I’m on a new account now.) How do I reject his request in an objective, appropriate manner? It feels unprofessional to refer someone totally OOS to reps I no longer work with.

Is anyone at a job they really, truly enjoy that also pays competitively (and has good benefits)? In my experience, I haven’t found anything that satisfies both. Someone please let me in on what’s going on with pharmaceutical advertising. Why is it the dumbest, most juvenile shit on television? It’s all horrible. My guess is you guys are getting paid a lot to work with a bunch of know it all, god complex doctors. So you compete to see who can create the biggest pile of shit on tv. Kind of the opposite of the One Show I guess. Please share because I cannot fathom how the dry eyes, eye drop commercial I just saw even got presented to a client.
