Just curious... Has your firm conducted lay-offs due to COVID? Why and how?

It would be easier to ask who hasn’t...

Nah no layoffs never!!!!

No layoffs here. We just had resource actions. Completely different.

What do you mean by “how”?

Our conferences unit was gutted because... no conferences. Will be interesting to see what the hell we do once those get turned back on, they were a big moneymaker for us and the conference team executed very well

like

Nope - we hired.

like

We did too 👌🏽😏

Yes, but not many (Toronto.)

EY is saying Performance separation, no layoffs. Is there any company lay off those with good performance over those without?

As people have said in similar posts, “who would leave during this time?”. Firms separated low performers to equalize the turnover and make room for incoming staff.

Big 4 has used the “up or out” strategy for decades. It is essentially the same thing. Would rather have a new hire with potential than an experienced staff showing little progression and a couple years of raises under their belt.

I wonder what this means for return to office plans.

What are consulting firms' relationships with the continent like right now. In the past, I've worked for a few firms which had London as a hub servicing continental clients and I'm curious about how Brexit and/or Covid-19 are affecting that. Are other European countries ramping up their local teams, or are they working on the assumption that nothing changes and the UK will continue to augment their numbers on assignments?

My 4 YO takes riding lessons at a small barn outside of the city. I hopped on a horse there recently for old time's sake, but haven't really ridden in years. A casualty of the legal profession, along with the rest of my hobbies from my former country life. His instructor asked me if I'd be willing to get back in the saddle. Part of me is like, this is the change I need. It will help me lose this COVID-15lbs. But I'm also terrified and I have no idea why. (cont)

What do you all do to make non-professional / personal connections? Particularly with the Coronavirus, and being in domestic relations, I wake up, go to work, work out, go home. So outside of law, my interactions with people are only at the gym given that my area is draining— particularly at the moment. Probably a good thing for now; but if we take coronavirus out of the equation, I’m interested what others in the community do to develop personal connections.

Not to start a political debate… I am not anti vaccine but have not wanted to get the COVID vaccine. I think I will be getting the vaccine tomorrow. Anyone else feel conflicted who originally really did not want to get it, but was kind of feeling forced to get it?

What do y’all talk to your SO about after work. With us both working from home, we are kinda in the loop of what happened all day more or less. Then at dinner we don’t want to talk about more coronavirus or work . Any ideas to get some new conversations going?

Talking to a guy I met a while ago. Only have hung out once before to hook up. A year later he makes a reappearance. I’m taking it slow bc covid and bc I don’t want a one timer w him again. We did a couple FaceTime calls then went for a walk. He texted tonight asking to come over for wine. I jokingly asked if he was sure bc I didn’t see him for a year last time we did that. Dodged it this time, but how do you ladies hold off on sex? Not looking to have a sit down talk tho
