Just curious - how many meetings/calls do you have in a typical day, what tax practice/service line are you in, and what’s your level?

Mondays and Fridays are pretty light with meetings but Tue-Thu I spend 6-7 hours in meetings/calls. One Thursday I had TWELVE 30-min meetings back-to-back. The problem with calls too is even if you have 30 mins in between, it's not actually enough to get work done. I'm a Senior Manager so I've started to either decline calls I don't feel like I need to be on or asked my teams to only schedule calls between 9am-2pm so that I have a few hours in the afternoon to get my work done.

It’s true. Sometimes I feel unproductive and then look at my calendar and realize the issue is I’m in calls all day most day.

Too many. Corporate tax senior - I probably spend 3/4 hours on the phone every day.

like

So many meetings. PCS manager and probably average 50%-67% of business hours are filled with meetings.

I feel I’m on calls so often that I have to work late into the evening to actually get any work done. The calls are internal calls to discuss the work. One of my frustrations in working in law firms was how hands off people were. I was promised a collaborative experience at Big 4 but the calls are a bit much. Apparently there’s no middle ground between never hearing from your team, and hearing from them too much.

That’s absurd….

For California HR folks: I know this is probably super obvious but I want to be sure I’m right… if Company policy states that hourly employees based in California earn 1 hour of PTO for every 40
Hours worked, and the accrued PTO is paid out upon termination, is this policy compliant under CA law?

Why firm is “begging” for employees? I mean firm is now paying more and adding more benefits to show what can employee get and try to keep or attract them. Aren't they know that in a romantic relationship, the more you say “please don't leave me, I will do anything for you ”, the easier the other party to control you? and you will not get respect? I'm an employee wants more, just a question to discuss about the firm's strategy.

This tax season is so terrible. I worked 75 hours last week and still have 4 business returns that have not completed yet. Client end has terrible turnover this year and sent us the PBC very late. Staff and senior keep complaining that they cannot finish before deadline. More ironically, while we are working our ass off, partners are enjoying their conference in FL last week. How “good” is that.

Fed up with the BS WLB in tax.I never thought I wld ever be saying this but hv been dealing with anxiety and panic attack issues lately, all majorly due to work relatd stress.I see no way out. Work in India and I don't think have too many 'industry exits' here. Dnt knw if I shld tlk abt this to SM. fear that I would be labelled as loser or probably someone who jst dnt want to work. Dnt knw if they wld help n reduce the load. I joined recently n dnt hv any rapport yet. Is leaving tax the only way.

How difficult is it to go back to school for a JD/LLM? I’m currently an S1 in tax at Big 4, but I’m worried my salary would still be a little “low” compared to the numbers I’ve been hearing about. Anything you recommend to ease the transition? If it makes a difference for your advice, staff is on the older side. They had buy in on the software and plenty of demos and time to check it out and test it etc. But implementing it is making them anxious
