Just curious, how much PTO do you guys get per year? Comparing benefits between my current job and a job offer I got and my current job provides me with 10 corporate holidays, 3 weeks of paid vacation and 2 floating holidays. I also have the option to buy 2 weeks of vacation. And I have separate sick days. This new job provides one bank for everything (sick, vacation and corporate holidays) and it’s 23 days per year but accrued.

UK 🤷🏼‍♂️

4 weeks

like

US East Coast - 20 paid PTO days, 19 paid office closures (summer Fridays, tax day, public holidays , holiday closure etc.) And 5 paid sick days. Per year.

In UK and Ireland I always had 25-27 days annual leave (PTO) per year plus paid sick time.

We have unlimited PTO, plus all the normal holidays and a few extra ones thrown in. All PTO generally gets a thumbs up from manager as long as our customers are covered with a backup while gone, so essentially we cover for each other when people are out but that's just because in my role we are a paid professional service so customers should have someone. Also very generous 18 weeks maternity /paternity leave. During that time accounts get transferred to a peer who has the bandwidth until your return.

Same at my place! High five for also finding a place that cares.

Mine has unlimited one bucket but with some strong caveats for long term or extremely frequent leave. If you are taking somewhere in the normal amount of PTO, you just have to get approved by your manager. Longer than 3 weeks you have have your performance goals within tolerance, approval by your supervisor and director. If it's severely health related, obviously they're more flexible with the performance goal part. I'm not sure how really long pto goes because I've never paid attention to it.

Basically in the shorter duration, all they care about is your billable and you not leaving your team in a twist.

Has a doctor ever suggested that you consider a less stressful job? And if so, are you male or female? I am female and have some chronic conditions. Today at a routine check-up with a new physician, he suggested maybe because of my "medical conditions" I think about a less stressful job. I have never received that advice from the specialists I see for those conditions, and I find it unlikely that a doctor would suggest this to a male patient. Does anyone have any insight?

Best tax advantaged accounts and financial things to consider for parents of newborns?

Just starting to learn about all of these beyond the basics (401k, Roth 401k), like HSA, FSA for childcare, additional childcare credit, dependent credit, 529, healthcare indemnity payout for delivery, etc) and it seems like there’s a new one to learn about every day.

What are favorites and what are some things you wish you’d learned about earlier?

I’m angry with my spouse since even when he was sick he didn’t mask at home and refuses to isolate in his room (would eat in the living room).

If I've maxed out my TFSA, should I continue investing through an RRSP or a personal investment account?

For context, I also have a good pension. My main concern is that while the RRSP will be nice to lower my taxable income now, I'm worried when I retire I'll have to withdraw too much from both the RRSP and pension. Thoughts?

Used to think Canada is a better place to live in comparison to US bcz of free healthcare, in fact for a while I was looking for ways to move to Canada. Recently had to do a detailed research of Canada and I realized how misinformed I was 🤦🏻‍♀️ everything is too expensive:
Car insurance: over 450 a month, cell line with very limited internet access over 80 a month, banks have fees to keep your money, cash your checks, or if you have over a certain number of transactions, wthhhh

I’ll be aiming for senior manager and director roles but don’t want the current “manager” title to hold me back.
