Who says you have to do it for 35 years?
Right. The kinds of jobs that force you to work that hard, pay enough that you don’t have to do them for 35 years.
Like A1 and SA1 said. You only burn like that if you are planning to work for 5-10 years and save money/get experience. You shouldn’t be burning yourself out if you want to do this for 10+ years. Also, remember that while securing financial stability is important, the most expensive commodity is your time and health. Your company cannot give you back your health even if they wanted to. You need to protect it. Also would recommend making sure to save time for those who are important in your life. Your parents are the youngest they will be today.
That’s really great! I feel like our culture values being busy and material success to the point we forget why we do it... to be happy with those we love.
I feel you. I’ve been crying all day today after working all weekend. And I know tomorrow will be just as bad/busy.
:-(
Same but every time there’s a little lull the pile of money seems pretty compelling
I’m glad I can commiserate with you all. This happened to me too. Thankfully I had a monday where I only billed one hour. I’m sure some would look at that as “lazy” but I think the fact I worked the entire weekend shows my ability to work for the firm. I am so wanting to leave, but I’m a first year (will be a second year soon) and I know my options would be nil anywhere else.
This is completely understandable. I would routinely struggle to bill my normal amount on Mondays after working a full weekend (or frankly even one full weekend day).
What were you working on?

Multi-jurisdictional regulatory filing that “absolutely must” be made by the end of the week.
Same...
Same. I don’t even want to do it for another year though. Not sure why you do, if these things frustrate you. The people who do it for 35 years are the people who don’t mind this lifestyle.

Good thing I slept all afternoon in protest because I’m working all night again
Sorry but I’m just on team “pile of money”
