Pretty common in the industry to have occasional weekend work. This profession is made up of over achievers.
Nothing that is not factual in that statement but what I find shocking is 1) a low level of EQ in your interviewer to tell you that in the recruiting process and 2) your surprised reaction to the fact. Yes we work on weekends from time to time as work requires so and that's true across all geographies in this industry (among many others). I don't know anyone who has become a consultant hoping for 9-5 WLB.
It all depends on the context of the interview of course, there could be cases where I don’t agree with your first point on EQ. E.g. if the candidate straight up asks if there’s weekend work, it’s better to be honest than just straight up lie, right?
I haven’t worked any weekends yet. (~1 year)
I rarely work weekends, set my boundaries at 6:00 pm when I'm home. If I'm on the road, it's either drink or work... I work, but that's my choice. With my teams, I have a "the way we work" meeting at project kickoff to establish those boundaries. ....and I rarely give out my personal cell number.
Wow, that's great!
Sounds like OW is the place to be
I wish this were true across the board
Lol welcome to consulting
Middle East based - never worked a weekend…
