You should absolutely be putting in at least the match amount for your 401k. Ideally you’d fully fund that as well.

I was in same position: do I max out on 401k or take that money and get one step closer to buying a home. I chose the latter because we wanted a home sooner and knew I was leaving money on the table from potential retirement gains/compounding interest. But like others said above do put enough to get the full match. Don’t forget that you ideally want to save enough to have cash left over for emergency fund too.

Who matches more than 10%?!

When I was in school ~2016. Some O&G was doing 20%. In 2021, from my understanding, either Microsoft or Google does 100%

Can you put it in a HYSA or invest short term in the market? Assuming you’re already contributing the minimum to your 401k to get your company match.

Started working for an agency during the pandemic and found out that they cut associate salaries for those who started during the pandemic. I’m doing the same amount of work and getting paid less just because I started during the pandemic. Seeing as the agency has won more business and things are pretty much back to normal, would it look bad for me to ask for a raise?

I’m new to investing and putting money aside for retirement. I started putting money into my 401k for the past 2 years (though I may need to increase the amount since it’s half the IRS limit). I looked into a Roth IRA but I don’t qualify- where else can I put my money? I have emergency funds already covered. Thanks.

Consulting vets, normal? I was lured into consulting and lost benefits due to the challenging transformation program being right up my alley. I have a multi year contract with heavy director duties promising fast track to Sr leadership. Day 1 I find out Iead no one and the MD is in charge. A few months later I get involved in spending nights and weekends for 3 weeks making a 60+ page deck. Company wins part of the contract and hires 12 more. Since then I have been ignored by them. No bonus!
