Just got a job offer in Dallas but I’ve never been. Anyone have any feedback on the city?

Nice try, firm HR department! You’ll never find out which office location we actually work in! :-)

Dallas is a plane-ride away from not being in Dallas.

This is the goddamned truth- also flights are cheap and DFW is a city.

I love it here. Don't look at the weather right now though.

Dallas is a cool city and it's easy to access the rest of the country, thanks to two great airports. Not to mention you're an easy drive or very quick flight to Houston and Austin. The weather sucks. And while Dallas and most major Texas cities are pretty blue, Texas as a whole is still Trump country, so be prepared for that.

I moved to Dallas for a job and relocated back 10 months later. I prefer New England. I was far too blue for the south. People kept staring at my SO and I whenever she visited, because it’s the south and they’re still not fully okay with the gay. I’d stay in DC if I were you, but give it a shot. You might love it. I personally didn’t. One thing I do want to express though is that there is NO BETTER FOOD THAN DALLAS. I have lived in three different regions of the US in my life and Dallas has EVERYTHING. It’s fabulous.

Texas ain’t the South.

Definitely think it’s worth visiting before committing. Culture shock is a big possibility coming from the east coast. Just in terms of geography, Dallas (like every Texas city) is prone to sprawl and very car-centric. As noted above, Dallas County typically votes blue but the suburbs are very, very red. COL is much lower than the coasts and no state income tax. Dallas is certainly livable; it’s a large American city with a lot of cultural, dining, and other options. It’s not especially attractive, IMO, being more or less flat; there are a lot of artificial lakes in the region. For my part, I’ve always said that Austin is the only city in Texas I could live in, and I believe that. Lots of folks love Dallas, though. You’ll need to gather some data based on the factors most important to you.

I’d definitely visit, if you’re able. Dallas is a different kind of city from DC. It has a more suburb-y feeling. I feel like if you’re a family-oriented type, it’s fine. If you’re an outdoorsy type, it’s fine. If you’re young and single, don’t know anyone already in Dallas, or the kind of person who lives in a city because there’s always something new and exciting to do, you might get bored and a little lonely after awhile. Also, pay scale at some big firms can be lower because COL is lower, but you still work crazy biglaw hours.
