Just got an offer in a boutique firm to do civil litigation. I am currently in tax, so I have no experience whatsoever. I have been interested in litigation for a while but I don’t know if I’ll like it. Understandably, I’ll be starting out as a staff since I have no experience in that area. Should I take the risk and make the jump?

If you can afford to do this financially then yes. Make the jump. Give it a try.

If you love it, amazing. If you decide this isn’t for you, tax will still be there. Being away for 1-2 years won’t derail your tax career.

If you’re interested I’d make the move. You can always go back to tax. I just moved from audit to litigation and couldn’t be happier. I think you’ll find that the work is much more interesting, the pay is probably better, and that the hours, while probably a bit more sporadic and intense at times, are better overall

Law school is if you want to be a lawyer. As in you want to be doing the prosecuting and defending. As an accountant, “litigation” really means “litigation support.” Your clients will be lawyers and your job will be to use your financial expertise to help them make sense of the operations, structure, financials, and accounting records of people and companies who are involved in a suit - helping them use that information to present a layman’s argument to juries - writing valuation and other reports for the court - and sometimes giving testimony as a financial expert to the court.

When you test a GL account cause the balance is in-scope. Do you net the untested debits and credits together to determine if acceptably low? Or is it determined by untested debits being below PM and untested credits being below PM?
I have not gotten a consistent answer and seen it both ways in practice.

Hi friends, Got two offers. One with: Humana(Remote)[Insurance based company]and another with Mastercard(Hybrid) (Ofallon, MO)-need to relocate after 6 months. Both are for Senior software Engineer. Humana- TC= 155K, Mastercard-TC=175. Which is a better option, as talk are going on that, recession will happen soon. I’m confused to choose, as some say Insurance company doesn’t get effected with recession. Please suggest.

I’m going crazy in Audit, I’m an A2. I think I’m going to try and transition to consulting. Would it be smarter to stay within the firm or go to a new one, and is there a half-step I should take (such as going to TAS for a year or so) before going into consulting? I just want more exposure to companies I work on than just the audit, it doesn’t feel like stuff I’ll be using in 5 years (but I’d be happy to be proven wrong on that). Business strategy/biz dev is catching my interest recently.
