Just got an offer to leave consulting and join a healthcare AI startup. Super excited overall, but why do I now dread all the “work” and conversations I’m going to have to in the coming weeks as I transition out of my firm?

Congratulations OP! You feel awkward because you are a good human. Remember they wouldn’t have felt awkward- so just do it and leave with grace. Good luck

likeupliftingfunny

Good luck to you, gearing myself up for a similar conversation and good to know there are others facing similar challenges... we’ll exit gracefully

like

Don’t feel awkward, you should be looking forward to the next couple weeks and those conversations. It feels great cause you get that slight air of superiority and no longer have to worry about the trivial nonsense. Enjoy my friend!

like

Congrats! It’s tough to transition when you’re dead set on leaving and would probably rather just leave immediately!

Which startup are you going to be working at?

Don’t dread it too much. You’re leaving for a reason and should be happy you’re on to bigger better things! Follow standard protocol and do what you need to. Don’t go above and beyond - you don’t owe your employer anything

Hi all!
Would love some insight on how you went from an HR assistant/coordinator to an HR Generalist. I’ve been in the HR world for 8 years, and only in the last 2-3 have I really done real HR work. The first company I was at didn’t have a solid HR team so I don’t really count that. I feel like I’m ready to take on more responsibility and learn more. And of course make more money.

I have looked into getting SHRM certification. But should I go back to school and get my masters in Hr?

I have over 12 years in B2B sales/sales management experience along with a graduate degree. I am wanting to shift gears and I am at a point where I can invest time in myself to learn through practical experience. The new industry I am wanting to pursue is real estate investment. I have read all the books but want some hands on experience on the property management side. How could I best leverage my skills for a role in this, and what should my expectations be for negotiation in compensation?

What are people’s thoughts on CS masters degrees? I’m not talking about the professional ones designed for non-CS undergrads, but a proper masters degree from a good school. I have 3 years work experience as a data engineer, but would love to dive deeper into ML and a degree seems like a good option. Will companies value it? I don’t have a CS background in undergrad, but most prereqs are knocked out.

I’m ready to find another gig. Btw I’m 1.5 years into the industry now soo I’m kinda new-ish. I’ve been working at a small shop, but I’m not a fan of the work we do. We rarely make “big idea” kind of stuff.

My book doesn’t have too many examples of real ad work that aligns with the kind of work I want to do. Is that a huge deal breaker for other agencies?

How does one tailor their book to stand out and transition to an agency that’s making the big stuff they want to make?

Hi all, I started this project 2 years ago called Wise Charlie (www.wisecharlie.com) which focuses on mental models and critical thinking.

In 2017/2018, I was contemplating going to grad school or starting a project. I decided on the latter. After not really doing much, I picked up on it this summer due to Covid. I now have 100+ customers and a few hundred newsletter subscribers. It’s been rewarding so far and have improved my own thinking.

Happy to answer any questions.
