I have an internal role and work remotely. I personally love it - mornings are so much easier when I don’t have to get myself ready. I can throw in a load of laundry or get dinner started if I have a break in the day. And I’m much more efficient because there’s not the distractions of the office. Career-wise, it holds me back a bit - there are just things I can’t do from home. But I’ve still had opportunities to grow and do interesting work, so I’m okay with a slower promotion track
can you work out arrangement with current client? push for remote days and see what happens.
I felt like it was hard for me to get even 1 day remote, not sure if I can do more than that. 😭
As a mom I’ve learned to just ask for what I need. Usually it’s worked out. See if you can get some remote days with your current team while you look for another role (internal or even another better client facing role). Then you’re not rushing to roll off and scrambling Hopefully your tenure with the client and team will mean they trust you and will work with you.
You won’t regret the time you spend on a project that allows you to balance your family life in the way that fits your needs. Ask for more remote time. Set available hours and stick to them. This is a temporary blip of time in the long run of your career. I took an internal role and didn’t travel until my daughter turned one. It was the best decision I could have made. Now I’m staffed on projects that require travel and I feel so much more confident as a mother and team member. Do what’s best for you! Good luck!
tough. Considering an internal remote role. I’m pretty bored on my project and not developing new skills and ready for change. Thinking about going internal and working remote so I have more time with my baby. Getting ready and commuting takes 3 hours out of my day. Thoughts?
Do it. Working remotely while my daughter is young (she’s 16mo now and I’ve traveled maybe 10 weeks of her life) has been such a joy. It’s hard, but I kind of thrive when I have too much on my plate so taking care of her and working has actually been amazing. We have a nanny come 3 days per week, and I’ve loved having the opportunity to see her learn and grow every day
