Depression/Anxiety Talk

Just got laid off. Anyone been through this. Afraid to tell my parents as they will stress out. How do I approach this?

You probably need a way to express your feelings. I’d call a friend and vent and calmly tell your parents. I would start making a plan - how long can you manage financially? How long is severance, when does unemployment insurance kick in? How much savings do you have? Which expenses can you reduce? Update your resume and make a list of 10 people to message with a gentle request for guidance in your search and potential leads. Write your goodbye message and add as many ppl as you can on LinkedIn. Tell us what you’re good at and drop a burner. Good talent is always in demand and things will bounce back. You’ll be okay!

Hi I have experience with workday and rpa development. Can I send a dm? I don’t have a burner. Any help will be appreciated

Call the relaxed parent first. Make a financial plan, then act.

I’ve been in this situation before and waited to tell. I sent an email to them saying I didn’t want to talk about it but here was the situation. Not sure it made me really feel better to handle it like that - in my experience ripping off the bandaid is best. Not just in regards to parents but the whole attitude of being laid off. Don’t hide from it or try to avoid the negative feelings - own it, talk about it, face it, have the hard convos. They hurt but help you move on quicker and stronger. This is true w parents too - call them ASAP, tell them quick and just get off the phone within 10 min. Tell them you’re ok, you’re going to be ok and that you’re doing all the right things.

Hang in there! This is trying times. So sorry you have to go through it. Happy to chat with you if you need someone to talk to.

You need to vent to someone close. Also definitely talk to your parents. They will understand and also provide support mental or financial if not both

I’ve been through this twice actually. And it will be ok. Hang in there! I agree on being smart about how to reduce expenses. See if you can rent that car out further (getaround) or sell. You might be able to get a cheaper one when time comes for a new role (ie I recommend buying one in cash for like $6k when you’re back on your feet - that’s to get you from point a to point b - no car payment that way)

Same here and i am trying to find stuff on LinkedIn and there’s nothing. My network is all saying they have hiring freezes but “will keep their ears open” which is another way of saying “I’ll forget in 5 min.” My bills total up to $2900/month when I trim everything down to the bare minimum. Unemployment insurance will not cover it.

Check the recently changed policies for your state. In WA landlords can no longer evict tenants for the time being despite not making payments.
