Sorry to hear that—and a Global CD, thats pretty damn high. Does someone that high up have a contract that the agency would be in breach of by letting you go? The standard thing is one months salary for every year youve been there, but thats for us mid-to-higher-level folks, youre top brass.
One month? More like one week per year of service. At least in OMC.
Yes. Always negotiable. Keep a dialogue going and ask external advice. I’ve seen people negotiate 6+ months depending on the circumstances.
Don’t forget about this, it might inspire you (despite Spacey’s terrible reputation now this is still a great scene). https://youtu.be/jCperI2Azy8 You are destined for better things. 🙌
Always
Yes. I've made the mistake before of not negotiating. One of my career regrets.
Yes. Very much so. Sorry to hear this happened to you. I’ve been there twice. I don’t know what you get at your level but in my experience, everything is negotiable. Ask for more than they offer.
Thanks all. Success!
Can someone elaborate then on what terms were negotiated, and were they mutually exclusive? All I can think of is severance lengthy, severance amount, medical coverage. What else? If you win on one, are you out of luck for the other two?
It is all negotiable. Having just gone through this, everything from the money to the fine details hidden within paragraphs of lengthy copy is negotiable. Also the date they “need” your response is arbitrary. They can not enforce that. Take your time and make sure you’re happy with how it ends up
We used to have a 100% in-house creative team but recently brought on a creative agency due to growth so the higher up roles got dumped. I was aware it was coming.
