Just got my 360 feedback and someone wanted me to “include juniors more in proposals and preparations for future work.” Be careful what you wish for…

This kinda threat is precisely why no one is keen on upward feedback. Threat + Retaliation, not by u OP but some folks.

like

It’s definitely not retaliation. Retaliation would be OP hurts subordinates on performance reviews because of their feedback.

Be careful what you wish for indeed

like

so... sounds like perfect feedback then? Slightly confused why you seem to regret asking for the feedback and getting it... if you want to be a leader then I think acting on the feedback would be the perfect response.

like

OP, I see you and thought it was funny 😄

This did not go as expected. I thought it was funny that someone asked for work that basically everyone views as a pain in the ass. I try to take that on myself and not burden my people with it.
I’m not retaliating on anyone, and I didn’t get bad upward feedback. All of the comments said they wanted to work with me again, and I’m 90% sure I know who wrote this because they asked me about biz dev specifically because they wanted to work with me again.
I’m thankful for the thoughtful feedback, positive and negative, though it wasn’t different than what they said to my face in informal feedback sessions.

like

OP part of being a good manager is making an active effort to figure out your reports’/ team members’ strengths and interests. What you find to be boring work might be right up one of your reports’ alley, and they may even enjoy it— win/win. Assuming everyone views tasks the way you do is a bit self-centered, I hope you can see where I’m coming from.

Also I get what you’re saying now but your post made it sound like you were about to pile on and make this juniors’ life hell for providing honest feedback or something.

like

Well said. I think OP has a few people under them who are ready to beast them on biz dev 😬

like

I could have been one such junior and although the extra work was too painful at the time the learning in RFPs proposals and the likes helped me grow faster. I built good connections while working on pitch with very senior members and asked some of them to mentor me. As I mentioned it was a pain but the ones truly interested once trained to how you do things would be an immense help except the first few times haha!

like

Employees need to learn how to give feedback without giving feedback.

like

OP, your reaction to authentic and well-intentioned feedback is coming off vengeful and petty. If I were your junior it wouldn’t be long before I’m in the exit opps bowl too

like

Vengeful and petty? I don’t understand at all. Nothing vengeful; if he wants to share in the biz dev pain I am happy to let him.

Fwiw I got the joke and thought it was funny

Hi all, does anyone have a good framework they would recommend for developing HCP/physician communication strategies and defining tactics for HCP engagement (outside of pharma reps)? There is of course a ton out there for patient communications such as patient journey mapping but engaging HCPs is a very different beast. Looking for something a bit more nuanced than a traditional consumer framework. Thanks!

I was recently laid off as a first year analyst. Looking for new consulting opportunities, but currently in a limbo stage of my career where I'm not an entry level campus hire, but also don't have 2-3+ years of experience to be considered an experienced hire. So I had two interviews today in the industry that I’ve been trying to work for since before I graduated college in 2020. I came onto my current firm as a contractor and then converted.
