Just got my first job out of college, and I've opened a HSA with my firm. Do I invest the funds (I have about 1k right now) or do I just keep it for a rainy day injury/medical needs? Am healthy.

An HSA is a tax advantaged investment account so if you can set it to keep the required $1k minimum and invest the rest, that’s your best option. Play the long game if you can.

like

Personally, I have never used my HSA for anything and have invested it (primarily in Visa). I think it would be helpful to think of your HSA as another Roth IRA account but for medical expenses in retirement. Your mileage may vary depending on your health, mine has been good.

like

You can only invest above 1k. Arguments both ways. If you don’t have significant bills now, I would avoid using it.

I had some large bills like orthodontics and did not want to pay out of pocket.

INVEST! 🙌🏽🤑🤑🤑

(as long as you’re healthy)

I’m so sick of politics and people politicizing things that don’t need to be. This is the perfect time for a new political party to come out called the “I hate politics, let’s just” party (pun intended). Instead of blue or red it’ll be colorless. It’ll just include normal f-ing people who meet in the middle to agree on things and avoid drama. People will stop posting polarizing political posts with misinformation, and just post about normal things. Illegitimate news outlets will have less fuel.

Got a free riding violation on my Vanguard account and can only use settled funds for trades for 90 days 🙄 (My fault, I know). Normally I don’t keep cash in my money market fund and only roll in $ after I make a trade. I’ve opened a Fidelity account in the meantime to trade without restriction. Does it allow trades without settled $? I’ve tested it and it says I can’t trade as there’s insufficient $. Not sure if this is standard or just because my account is new. Any idea?

Anyone using Edward Jones? Feel like we did a mistake and rolled over all my husbands retirement accounts from different employers and our kids 529 under them Jan 2020. Since then market is down and accounts lost20%. But the fees every month is pretty high around $200. I am worried to move it to fidelity or some other place and manage myself(not very confident), then I have to sell all of the Edward Jones managed funds and buy new. sell low buy low makes sense but don’t want to loose anymore.

I go back and forth - simple 3 fund/ETF portfolio for Roth IRA and/or brokerage account vs. mixture of ETFs and high flying tech stocks. My conservative and lazy side makes me lean the former, but when I look at the returns of some of my individually held stock, I'm tempted to be more active (maybe than I need to be) in buying individual stock. Any tips/insights/criticisms/advice welcome! Thanks
