Just got off a two hour workshop with a client and was too scared to say anything and speak up even though I probably had good points. How do you get over the fear of being wrong or sounding stupid? I feel like I let my team down.

This is a good fear to have. I was also scared to speak up during workshops and honestly, I still am a little bit. Learning the material and preparing ahead of time helped me boost my confidence a lot. I would also ask my manager questions during the workshop and she would encourage me to ask the group instead. Honestly, At most of my workshops, I wish everyone would take some more time to think through their comments and ideas a little more. Half the stuff they ask/say is more of a distraction from the actual topic. I try to make sure that whatever I communicate has a purpose. I think this habit has made me me think more critically about my ideas (which makes them better quality ideas) and now people actually pay attention to what I say. Also, if it is wrong, even if you have a good point for bringing it up, no one will think anything of it.

Have you tried running "dry runs" with your manager/another team member? they'd probably be happy to help you practice/simulate the experience before you have to do it so you can feel more comfortable

Tell you manager/lead that one of your goals is to be more vocal in client interactions but you feel intimidated and could use some help. One of my team members said this to me and from then on I made it a point to call on her and ask what she thought about X or if she had anything to add to Y. After a few times of calling on her and seeing the positive reaction she got to her points she learned to automatically speak up. We all need some help! Don’t be shy to ask

While I’m just getting used to a new group, I tend to ping my lead on the side during meetings, but as I get more comfortable and more trusted, I speak up more during meetings. It’s definitely something that I need to work on, but being the perfectionist I am, I’d rather be known for being on the quiet side than for talking too much.

Have two offers and unsure which to take. Ex Big 4 and have done software startups since. Option 1: Director role back in Big 4. Good package. Good fit with my area of expertise, focusing on tech solutions and partnering with startups. Working across all industries and clients. Option 2: Big Tech/GAFAM (level = L6 google/e6 FB/65 Microsoft, which I’m told is Director equivalent) Even better package. Account Technology Strategist. Question: The company that you are working for offers cloud managed services and has been approached by a potential client. What are some areas (or red flags) you would consider before responding to their RFP? ( I started putting together a response but would love to get your insights) Answer: 1) Understanding of current annual spending vs spending if they adopted our cloud services 2) Clients expected growth rate 3) Regulatory requirements depending on industry (medical, fed etc)
