Just got offered a new job. Ideally, I really want to help my current company as much as I can and be there through cyber week (11/30) before leaving. I also want to take time off between jobs because I am so burnt out. Is early December way too far away of a start date to propose to the new job? Will they look at me like I’m crazy?

Tell them you’re excited and that you really want to close on an interesting project at your current firm which you feel will help bring new skills/knowledge and that you’re a team player. If they push back ask if it’s a deal breaker and make your decision then. Really depends on what they want you for ie do they want help with cyber week too?

It’s 5 weeks away which whilst more than 2 weeks isn’t an eternity. Just make sure you can attend the office Christmas party (assuming they’re doing one and you feel safe to do so)!

Small firm partners are allergic to WFH, and can't afford to be flexible with when an associate gets to their work. The support of a larger firm is what has kept me alive this past year.
