Deloitte question. I have always gotten a raise each year, the only question I ask is how much of a raise do I get. But I’m hearing from former Deloitte folks, it is naive to expect annual raises each year however small/big they are? And how does this play in Deloitte consulting vs advisory? Do one tend to withhold annual raises in base salary over the other, or is this just a deloitte culture thing? Looking at exit opportunities all over. So lmk! I’d Rather get a small raise than none at all.
Thoughts on Infosys Consulting? Any experiences?

100% take it. You either
1. Stay at BCG and move up
2. Leave, in which case your resume has BCG and opens far more doors
I’d take it.
Do it and do not let the “leveling down” get to you. You’re taking 2 steps back to take 20 forward, i did something similar and i can’t believe i questioned it in the first place now that I’m on the other side. Good luck!
Do it. I'm leaving for BCG albeit it's an upward promotion and hefty raise.
Ok maybe in Dubai/Saudi. But still I’m skeptical. I’ve spent 10yrs with BCG in several regions and I’ve never heard of base pay being adjusted for anyone - it would mess up the whole compensation structure. My guess would be that they’ll roll it into a relocation bonus or something like that to make you whole.
I’m not sure what the manager role is like at Accenture, but I would likely have done the BCG PL role for less money than the BCG C role. Life is orders of magnitude more difficult as a PL, but also far more interesting.
That being said, I think it’s wise to spend some time as a BCG C before becoming a BCG PL, otherwise life can be terrible for you and your teams. BCG sometimes will offer laterals like you accelerated timeframes to PL. But typically this doesn’t work out and the promotion runway gets lengthened in order to avoid being cut in an up or out.
All of this is a long winded way of saying - I don’t know. I guess it depends on how happy you are at Accenture.
Also make sure you’re comfortable serving BCG’s clients in the region before relocating.
BCG2 - Partner told me he can get me that amount to counteroffer Accenture’s offer for me to relocate to a different region. He wants me to join BCG in the Middle East and they will relocate me from the US. We were not discussing bonus, that was purely base pay.
So BCG offers are essentially the same to everyone (within a geographic region). I’ve never heard of someone negotiating a better offer. My understanding is also that tier 2/3 firms pay better than MBB at the lower levels. So I’m a bit confused how this is possible? What’s the location? Are you sure you’re not confusing “max bonus” with an expected bonus?
BCG2 - by far one of the best and most helpful responses I have genuinely heard. Truly appreciate your insight and your feedback. I have a call with the partner and HR next week to discuss a few outstanding items before proceeding with the process. In such a case that I’m being referred by someone who is within the practice, what should I expect in the interview process?
Isnt BCG C = ACN M? I know in a few firms the consultant and associate level do the same level job as an ACN M. I.e. Manage and lead engagement without necessarily managing/owning the P&L of the account like an SM or MD would
BCG is buying out Accenture tech and digital folks for big money (bonuses, promotions, etc) as they try to pivot to data & analytics. Same goes for McKinsey and Deloitte and EY from what I've heard. We do the same for people we need for one reason or another from these firms. We're in the middle of disruption in the industry and talent has always been the name of the game.
Whether or not you should take it is really personal preference. Do you have a strong network here? Then stay and it'll pay off not just for promotion and accommodating personal days etc but also when times are tough. Accenture can weather downturns much better than strategy firms simply because our contracts are on average much longer than MBBs. That's also part of the reason they're building out tech capabilities. I heard from 2 ppl who switched to McKinsey Solutions that they've been on the bench since they joined last year and generally treated as not real McKinsey within the company.
On the other hand, if you're looking for a short term exit role, BCG would definitely get you better opportunities than Accenture. Longer term, getting to partner in MBBs without being "born and raised" in the company is tough.
OP at the more senior levels we tend to have our own case interviews that we give over and over again. So yes, I wouldn’t expect it to be tailored to your background. I’m not a big fan of case interviews because we miss a lot of talent that hasn’t gotten up to speed on cases and cases aren’t best indicator of potential in the role. Either way if you want the job, I would practice, same as in business school.
Accenture 2, to clarify what I said about the comp structure and negotiation only applies to consulting staff. I should have mentioned that
ACN 2 - can you provide me with your current level and DTE? I was hesitant to push for an upward promotion or a lateral due to the concerns mentioned by BCG2. I heard a lot of people struggle to be successful and deliver value to clients while still trying to get a grip of the BCG ropes.. I don’t have any concerns on my own capability but I’d like to be realistic and set myself up for success.
Wanna case prep? Got a BCG interview in a few weeks for regular/Strategy track
BCG2, I negotiated my offer about 8% higher than their initial offer FWIW.
Depends on how much more. You need to also look at the entire package, as well as compare the cultures, networking capabilities, location, etc.
OP, glad it’s helpful. Re: interviews, I’m not sure. The interview process can vary, but I think it would be highly unusual for anyone external to come in without doing some case interviews.
BCG 2- thanks for the information. If I’m particularly experienced in one speciality but they want me to follow the generalist track, I should assume the case studies can be rather completely different than my current line of work/ expertise. In other words - I need to brush up on my strategy lingo?
OP, I'm leaving as an L8 with Accenture and coming in at a manager level with BCG, but I'm in the technology architecture OU (as BCG2 mentioned they're buying up tech folks) so I'm technically getting out of consulting for an internal role.
ACN4 - yes.!!!
Take it
