Just got promoted to M1 but having some trouble getting offers in industry. Usually make it to the mid-late level process of interviews and get a lot of questions around why I would want to leave so early on as a Manager. Anyone ever encountered this? I don't mind staying until M2 but the marginal benefit of me staying is just more time on my resume doing the same type of projects.

Maybe say that you have been fulfilling the M1 level responsibilities prior to the formal title change and were looking for a new role to challenge yourself.

Why you want to leave is a standard interview question. As to why you’re leaving early on as a manager, you can spin it to say you’ve been with your company for X years and are ready to take your skills/experience somewhere else.

What SC1 said. I tack on something about knowing I don’t want to go the Partner track and not wanting to go back to constant travel and wanting to drive continued impact in an organization rather than jumping from place to place. My issue is that I’m having a hard time finding roles without crazy lowball offers since a lot of the companies I’m targeting are smaller startups.

like

Why are they talking about you being a Manager? Seems odd. Are you over-using the fact that you got promoted?

i think in my resume, i just lumped all my consulting experience together. didn’t do a break down of the months bc i technically only had 2 months of official M experience

Sell your broader consulting experience, not necessarily the Manager title. The promotion to M can be used only to convey you succeeded in a high performance environment.

At ey you work on different projects but cant see the impact once the project ends - want to see things through and take ownership

I get 5 offers within 3 months of making manager at Deloitte…I just said I didn’t want to travel anymore, no one pushed.

Corp strat

I didn't break out my Deloitte titles on my resume - I just list "manager" so you should consider the same! I had no one ask me about when I was promoted.

Fledgling startup or a big, established company: where would you work?

Working at a startup helps you pick up new cross-functional skills, forces you to dig deeper into your reserves, and allows leadership opportunities.

Big companies typically have a more structured path for career growth, offer benefits and perks to employees, and are perceived as more stable.

While giving the tech interview as well as while having the HR discussion, I mentioned my expected CTC as 9-10 LPA(CTC). I cleared the interview and uploaded all the documents in the portal yesterday. Today mrng all the document verification was completed. But when I got the call for offer discussion, she asked what u expect. I said 9-10 LPA. She questioned me that on what basis I am asking for this much hike. She offered me 6.3 LPA as CTC with 21% variable. 5.2 as basic. Rest part in comments..

I am in my last round of an interview process and will meet the entire team spending a few hours with them in the office. Business professional & resume copies ...what else? It's my first in the US, so a bit nervous, but in general confident and relaxed. 😎
What should I pay special attention to? Any ideas what questions I should prepare and what would they appreciate from my side?

Has anyone been in this situation or was part of the team? Pls share your insights with me!TY
