Buy things
Take it as an opportunity to give back to people who are struggling. For that money you would’ve spent celebrating, but yourself a nice bottle of wine and donate something to a food bank or a charity you care about
Promotions in established companies are usually the result of “yeah, this person already operates at the next level”. You being proud of your achievement does not take away anything from folks who lost their jobs. Also promotions don’t usually result in massive changes to job profiles. However you’ll see things solidify and marginal increases in responsibilities. At the same time, an unspoken expectation is that you’ll take on more and at the same time delegate more. Don’t forget the latter otherwise you’ll find yourself in a tricky situation and might feel you don’t deserve this up leveling. You can celebrate but in a safe manner. If you have a significant other or family nearby- have a nice meal and quality time. But yourself a nice gift - something that the rational you won’t buy because you can adjust with this other thing that doesn’t cost as much.
Also, set goals - in my new role, I will strive to do this more and do that less. A healthy % may be 10-20% of that do more could be pushing yourself to unleash your potential.
I’m happy for you. You deserved this. Celebrate and be happy. You, your team, your friends and family would love that for you. Congratulations!!
I also just got promoted to SM. Thank you for writing this. You have lifted my spirits on a dreary Sunday night :)

First of all, congrats, it’s a great accomplishment and one you should absolutely be proud of.
Second, I commend you for your perspective and thinking of others, it is great to see.
Finally, I would suggest taking a day off and doing something that you enjoy. You deserve to reward yourself. Try not to think of your promotion as a zero-sum game; with higher compensation it potentially puts you in a position to help others.
Again, congratulations on the accomplishment!
(As someone who got laid off) congratulations. You don’t need to feel guilty about your promotion. No one is blaming you personally for what happened to them. You should celebrate your success. That being said, there is a such thing called achiever’s guilt. If you find yourself falling into this pattern often, you might consider seeing someone to talk about why you feel this way.
Congrats...but now the real pressure begins... I don't know about your from but many firms et some very specific deadlines to advance to the final level... For example, EY has an up or out mentality, A SM has 5 - 7 years to make partner/principle or managing director. If he/she does not earn the final move by that point, he/she becomes an alumni.
Congrats 🍾🎈🎉🎊 enjoy and be good to your juniors , SM is well deserved!!!

Congrats!
I’d encourage you to think about what makes you happy, aside from the typical celebrations one would do for these promos with friends and family. Maybe it’s treating yourself to a solo vacay, maybe it’s buying something of material value that you’ve been eyeing, or perhaps it’s just being happy for yourself for the time being until you can celebrate the way you want to without COVID getting in the way.
Congratulations! Some advice a partner gave me when I was promoted - if budget allows, try remodeling a part of your home to mark a step up in your career
Go on a safe trip!!
Covid is basically over! Wear a mask to get to the restaurant and then party!!
