Just got staffed on two projects where i am billing 60 hours for the next 6 weeks. Will i die? What would you do in re: time management to make my days more effective? 20 hours of the 60 is remote...

Make sure to work smarter, not harder. Understand your role and what you need to accomplish for both projects. If you are asked to do work not related to that, politely and professionally decline or ask how it relates to your role. If you’re being asked to do BS work that is related to your role, give it the attention it deserves. Lastly, just because you’ll be billing 60 hours a week doesn’t mean you need to be working 60 separate hours. Multitask and bill 60 while working 50 if you can swing it. Managers will not be watching your Skype status and counting up the hours you work. Just make sure to get your stuff done and be available by text outside of business hours when needed.

I’ve done it as an SC and hit 70. It’ll suck but you can take pto after or it’ll help you catch up with utilization

like

A1 working 50 and billing 60 is unethical. Please don't encourage others to do that

like

Here is a new idea....figure out how to get everything done in 45 hours. Charge the full 60...work super efficiently and be done in 45

like

^billing 60 doesn’t mean working 60. I think most of us bill 40 / week and work much more than that

like

Fixed fee billing to the client does have anything to do with the hours you charge. If you work one, charge one. Not sure why this is so hard for our industry to understand. Client billing is separate from time charging

like

My plan was to work half days on Saturdays and late on Fridays. Let myself have Sunday’s off.

like

Been doing it for 6 months on a project. Youll be tired but you’ll survive. For me Waking up early and knocking stuff out before business hours helps because I can get a lot more done without meeting, calls or team members distracting me

like

For time management I worked through the weekends. It sucked

like

That’s a good plan M. I had a hard time working late because I need time to workout every day or else I have a hard time functioning. I could’ve worked later and longer and preserved some weekend time

like

Are you saying you have to bill 60 hours per project, or 60 total? If the latter... That sounds like a pretty reasonable normal week

like

M2 - Depends on the work being done and how the client billing contract is structured (fixed fee versus T&M). That’s why I say If OP can do it.

like

This makes me feel better! Thanks @D1

And OP no, you will not "die." Pls. Plan your outfits in advance and be prepared to eat takeout or delivery, but you will be just fine

@m2....your ideas are hilarious. Charging on a per hour basis does to promote becoming better or more efficient. Op charge 60 hours and get the work done as fast as possible. To look like a huge rockstar....sell some follow on work. To look like a god do it all in 20 hrs and charge all 60

Hi there! I need some guidance. HR and global leadership rolled out some amazing new initiatives like not starting until 10 am on Mondays, no meeting Fridays and required 2 additional summer days a month. The problem is, my boss refuses to comply with the initiatives. He constantly scheduled meetings before 8 am on Mondays and after 7 pm on Fridays. He also doesn’t let me take time off. Should I go to HR? I’m really not one to complain but I’m tired and extremely burnt out. Thanks for your help!
