Just got told by Infosys recruiter that they want to make me an offer but I need to wait until they have a client lined up. Is this normal? I suspect they would rather hire a H1B than me.

This is common in Infosys. They don’t keep bench at all. It’s not related to H1B discrimination as you are suggesting. In fact I have heard they are rarely hiring new H1B folks these days.

The whole H1b = cheap labor thing is not always true. It may be for generic, less experienced candidates, but I’ve rarely seen big wage gaps for experienced H1b candidates. In fact, I’ve hired H1b’s for way more than US Citizens (or anyone else, for that matter), because there were very few candidates available, and the person chosen was darn good.

Slalom recruiter told me the same couple of years back. They were signing a big deal and wanted to wait till it goes through since we were being hired for that particular client project. Honestly if it’s Infosys or other staff augs, it’s better to start with a client lined up vs bench.

I don’t remember what organization told me the same thing, this was years ago now, but they never got back to me.

Infosys bread and butter is outsourcing so they’re probably applying that model which has a client need before hiring

I don’t get why the entire world is freaking out about Covid19. (1) be cautious, (2) don’t visit elderly relatives, but the way I see it- everyone’s going to come into contact with it- it’s inevitable

One of my biggest takeaways from this whole situation is that the Wall Street Journal is a top, top source of daily news. Content, speed, minimal bias.
