Just got told by managers that my performance hasn't met their expectations. High performer last year. Am I getting fired?

Office politics exist no matter the company. My view of high performers who dramatically drop off is that they were probably on ideal clients or had properly staffed teams. The minute they are put into leadership positions or on clients with more issues, theyre more exposed and there are more judgment calls.

Looks like it's happening much more frequently thanks to vision 20/20

I'm in the same boat man, fuck this company

Yes you are. I'm in the same boat. 4 last year, not meeting this year. It all fits to the firm's dirty unspeakable agenda. Find a recruiter and run.

EY8 is spot on. A monkey can run a great engagement with a great team.

What region are u in? I met someone from texas who said evens 4s were let go from her office bc there wasnt enough work. The low performers were squashed too. Your mgrs shouldve told u earlier tho!

like

you exceeded expectations last year, thus raising the bar even higher for this year. then failed to hit your old bar, let alone the constantly-raising bar for this year. tough titties, time to bail.

Partner 1 & EY 8 - I agree on your points, but going from 4 --> 2 is a yellow flag for the counselor, managers and leadership/operational effectiveness of the group. Could mean many things (staff is having personal issues, unable to handle leadership) but most likely the simplest answer is best: high performer not put in a position to succeed.

You will be on a pip soon, interview soon

Or you were exceeding expectations last year, didn't develop or trended backwards and are no longer meeting.

Does this happen often ?

Did you feel like you weren't performing? Do you have too many people in your class/up for promotion? Just curious about what happened.

how can u be a high performer one year and not meet the next? does not make sense to me

@ey5 there was a long discussion on this yesterday, scroll down a few pages and you will see why. Bullying/favoritism/politics/vision2020, pick the word you like and go with that.

@ey6 SW

I'm a firm believer is blending into the crowd as a staff. The high achievers get the shit jobs dumped one then once becoming a senior. One of two things happen. You either quit bc of all the bullshit or the you underperform relative to prior year and get out on a PIP or laid off

Do you even get time until the year end discussions ?

@OP did you get promoted last year? It's very easy to be an outstanding staff and an awful senior.
