I really recommend talking to your psychiatrist about this. They may be able to recommend some coping mechanisms that could help you and your specific condition. It’s so hard to control those compulsions, but it could mean a big change in your trajectory. It doesn’t sound like you’re saying anything harmful, but it could be an issue of professionalism later. You’re not a failure, this is a part of you and that’s ok. It probably makes you a lot of fun to be around! You just have to learn to moderate it sometimes. I’m sure there are ways for that to become possible. It sounds like you’re good at your job, so don’t doubt yourself. You can do this 🙌🏻

I'm in the same boat. My SM's feedback was that I need to get comfortable with my own silence. I have a reputation for absolute competence but also being a loose cannon and going off-script. I took a long, hard look at my behavior and found that when in a meeting, paying attention to your physiological sensations helps a lot. You may feel physical anxiety or uneasy before you speak, or you might lose focus and start to feel fuzzy. Whatever the case, the way you physically feel is a great indicator of your mental state, and tracking it can give you data to predict what causes you to speak out unthinkingly. It's incredibly corny advice, but seriously, look into trying meditation and the headspace app in particular. A lot of their focus exercises have helped me put a decision inject into the thoughts-to-mouth path. Meditation may seem dumb, but it works.

...hyperactive as such. My manager said I need to think before I speak as it could come across badly to clients and that it will lower my credibility with them. The only example he couple give me is when I once said “I’ve got writers block” while at my desk and a member of the client team heard me. Not even in a bad way, nor did they even say anything. But my manager has really digged at me for it and it’s making me feel really down. I genuinely can’t help it. I often shock myself when I say things and instantly regret it. I’m forever like Hagrid “...I really shouldn’t have said that”. Nothing I ever say is *bad*, but could be better worded or not said at all. My manager knows I have ADHD, they understand I struggle to think before I speak, yet he has reported it to my counsellor. I feel like a failure. Im trying so so so hard to grasp all the difficulties of being a consultant, yet feel I’m being knocked for things I genuinely can’t help :(. Any advice?
