If taking "approved PTO" comes back to haunt you, then sadly you are working in the wrong group. Hoping it was informal and sarcastic conversation (wouldn't be the first time sarcasm was misinterpreted). If it truly gets documented, have your manager go to bat for you. Then reconsider being part of this team. Tone at the top!
Define excessive. I mean... this was once in a lifetime. Fly!
Seriously this is one of the things that makes me crazy in PA - people are so petty... Did you ask for approval - yes, did your work get done - yes... It should be a non issue, but some jealous jerk has to get pissy about it... totally push back, you did nothing wrong!
Damnit this reminds me I have to do that dumbass self-assessment.
If taking PTO is your only negative feedback I honestly think it’s a good thing. Chances are this will not amount to much
Lol wait....regional managing partner....please tell me you have an "assistant to the regional managing partner" and if you don't you should get one.
Exactly. After NFC win I requested PTO Monday after SB. Manager approved. Then when they won on tues. I asked if I could take Thursday & Friday and then submit my work saturday & Sunday. Mgr was totally cool with it
@SM1 the jealousy is easily the worst part of PA. I get my shit done and am rated in the top quartile at my level, but I leave earlier than some because I have life to handle. It doesn’t matter that I don’t miss deadlines or my work quality is high, I still hear one particular SM comment that his group are the only ones putting in hours on the engagement. It’s absolutely mind boggling.
Push back on that.
Assuming I should wait to see how it’s documented in the write-up of my actual performance review given it was communicated via conversation
I fully support your actions. If it doesn’t work out at KPMG we should talk. Dilly Dilly! Philly Dilly!
KPMG2. That’s a good one! Don’t quit your day job.
Yea I presume it’s going to be used to underpin the justification for why I’m “not ready” to be promoted to manager after I’ve managed six engagements successfully & clearly demonstrated the capacity to perform at that level.
I noticed at the end of the day many managers only care about saving their own skin, if it means screwing over their staff/seniors they don't care, there is such high turnover in big 4 chances are the staff/senior will quit anyway so why try to make them happy. I have never denied anyone time off...life happens, work will still get done. We are not saving lives here.
Preach 🙌 KPMG 1 and 2! You have to be smart, don't fool yourself into thinking these people are your friends or have your back... If it will benefit them you can bet you ass will be under the bus. And as for the office optics, some people will never get over the "if I don't see you then you are not working thing". Come on, in today's environment that is ridiculous. When I am online at 2 or 3 in the morning no one sees it, but they notice when I leave at 5:30 to have dinner with my kids... I just keep my head down and get my work done, the only thing you can do is not give them a reason to talk or be on their radar! So many assholes and bullies in public accounting....
