Very surprising experience. I currently work in PE Ops and interviewed at a few other large funds and never experienced this. Must be one-off.
Definitely put me on my heels but reassuring to hear that’s not your experience.
My experience was different. Case was given by the most senior MD.
Historically, this is what I’ve experienced with T1’s & boutique consulting teams. Glad to hear that it’s shaping up like my experience is not the norm (albeit there is a sour taste it’s now leaving)
I’m in PE ops as well and interviewed at several firms and never had this experience, sounds like one-off. Sorry to hear you had a bad one. On to the next—I’m sure something good will come along!
Much appreciated and glad to hear that was not your experience. Given this was the first one in the hopper, I wasn’t quite sure what to think.
I’ve got crossover with some of their non-ops side, so I debated getting their take. But on to the next!

Not worth your time if that’s the representation they choose to display. Just a proxy for what your full-time gig would look like.
This seems to be the only real takeaway.
OP - How did you land your PE Ops interview? I am currently in consulting and want to make the switch to PE Ops.
If you have MBB interviews on the way, it could be worth dipping your toes in the water.
I’m currently trying to enter in from the second path (have some additional exp. working in my favor), so it’s not impossible. It just appears the best opportunities would come from the former.
