Just heard today that childcare is re-opening on Monday. It’s a re-enroll or lose your spot situation. Wasn’t ready to make this call so soon! Would you go back? Have an infant; in San Diego, CA; SO and I are WFH.

I take my child to the in-home daycare we used before. We have no high risk people in our contact circle, and our area has very few cases. I feel safe to take him there, and it’s important for mine and my husband’s mental health to allow us to get our work done. So if you feel it is safe for you to do so, I would take your child to daycare.

like

Omg can my kid go there!? I’m seriously struggling with toddlers, being confined to my stinky dirty house, nonstop annoyed clients and partners, and pipeline impacts. Is your gym opening too? I need to move. Jk. kind of. You answered yourself - if you’re not ready yet, don’t send your baby there!

Thanks for the laughs. Hang in there!

Keep your child at home. Nothing and I mean nothing is worth your child’s life. That is what is at risk right now. Everyone should be very cautious and realistic about what is actually happening right now. Stay vigilant.

I’m in a different camp. If you’re not around anyone high risk on a normal basis, then yes. This is going to take months if not 1+ year to be totally safe so think it’s worth it to get the help you need to continue working assuming you’re not in contact w anyone in a high risk group

likesmart

As we shift to a system where things reopen, the risk is in the hands of individuals. So those who are at risk or in the circle of others at risk are going to have to be the ones to make responsible decisions about who goes out, where, and how. In my mind, kids w grandparents at home for example, should not go to daycare right now and take on that risk. Those who don’t have risky people in their contact circle are going to begin doing such things. This is the change we have as things open up, right or wrong. So sure OP’s kids could be a conduit of virus to other daycare kid’s family but OP really has to evaluate (1) what is needed for thriving and surviving over the next year (ie is daycare necessary or just nice to have) and then (2) is OPs fam in contact w anyone at risk. If no then I think make the decisions you need to for your fam

I’m not sending my child anywhere without any viable vaccines in place...I personally wouldn’t take the risk. Totally your call and what you feel comfortable with:)

San Diego’s positive test rate is showing signs of declining... if it were me I would prefer to give it a couple more weeks to be sure. Is it possible to re-enroll/pay but jut not send?

like

I’m in San Diego too and our case numbers aren’t too bad. I’m weight this as well but leaning towards sending him back given the low number of cases and the high impact on our mental health.

Can you find a nanny or nanny share instead?

likesmart

Yeah, it’d be 2x more expensive but definitely a safer option!

I was in the same boat (in the Midwest) and withdrew my 2 yr old since we are not okay with returning to daycare with no vaccine or broader testing. Our plan is to reassess once K-12 schools reopen as an indicator whether daycare is considered safe.

We are in the same exact situation. I am sending my toddler back on Monday and have so much anxiety about it, but after 1.5 years on the wait list (which we got on when I was barely a month pregnant) we cannot lose our spot.

like

Ehhhh. Based on some comments on threads like this, i would not bank on that.

I personally would hold off

Maybe our childcare center is stretching the rules. My husband and I aren’t essential...

Yea, not sending my kid back to daycare anytime soon. I’m looking into requesting LoA for the next two months

I’m actually taking my baby for 4 month shots next week- so will ask for the pediatricians thoughts and then decide

Update saw my pediatrician today who confirmed good to start daycare

I made my husband take kiddo to daycare this morning. There were tears. Really, really hoping it was the right decision. Meanwhile, I’m stalking the daycare app for updates and eating my feelings over here.

Nom nom feelings. Hang in there. No good answers to any of this.

Anyone who sent kiddos to daycare able to provide an update? So far so good? Any key lessons learned? TIA! ❤️

Hi 🐠: need some perspective. Currently approaching the end of my notice period at the current firm having accepted a role. However been getting much better opportunities to interview at other firms now. Have 2 months before I join the new firm. (1) What are the implications of interviewing after leaving the current firm from a referencing standpoint point? (2) Do I make it clear in the interviews that I’ve already resigned from the current firm? Thoughts welcome. TIA 🙏

Not sure how to handle this and am very tired of being left in the dark again and just feeling alone this entire pregnancy.
