My firm better match. They always have but they’re constantly slow to the party. I’m going to be billing 250 hours this month and December and I’m not working this hard to not get paid market.

Hi can anyone tell me how is the promotion cycle and performance review in GS ? Like how many years it can take for 3 year experience Analyst joining laterally to be promoted to Associate in Compliance Division.

CAREER ADVICE I want to be promoted to manager in 1 or 2 years. I would like to make this point clear to my bosses, but in an ‘adult way’ (so not just running into the room and yelling ‘I want a promotion, because I deserve it’). I would like to make clear that I know the promotion must be earned and that I am willing to go the extra mile for that, but that I am serious about this. How would you go about conveying this type of message?

I work at a small agency. I asked for a raise and was told you can get one in a few months if you do X,Y,Z but also keep in mind you make (on the low end of) what your position should make. My question is—I wear many hats within my agency because we’re small and growing—So while I may be an art director, when needed I’m also a PA, or a production designer etc... SO shouldn’t my salary reflect that??

How does everyone feel about "trial runs" instead of being given an actual promotion? Basically, doing the job for 3 months and if it doesn't work out, you go back to your old role. But the role you are doing as a trial has far more pressure and responsibility than your previous role. I'm really trying to gauge how I should feel about this and if this is common.

Soooo…. Serious question: What do you do when your department is cut in half from people resigning. And yet the amount of work stays the same or increases. And it doesn’t seems like the agency wants to add more people to your department. 🤔 Do you stay or abandon ship as well?

For those who negotiated salary when getting promoted, what was your approach?Did you have another offer? How did you come up with comparable position salary and how did you communicate this to Partner during comp call? I am a L2 up for IC role which I am optimistic about getting. I am sincerely worried that the typical raise this year will not take into account inflation from stimulus and price increases. Focusing on salary only, switching firms seems like a no brainer unless salary match

I’ve been practicing for 6 years in-house at a media company (was a startup when I joined and is now more established), straight out of law school. Due to the small nature of our team (3 legal members), I have been involved in all areas of our business and even advise c-suite frequently about legal risks. I received a promotion, with another title bump on the horizon this year. I have an opportunity to go to a start-up media company as the sole attorney. Anyone else have experience doing this?

Promotion to senior after 1 yr is pure BS. Why do firms do this? One year is not enough to expose one to enough variety and develop expertise to review and teach others. Encouraging mediocrity?!

Anyone know of Partners/Managing Directors who had babies while at that level? Even better... anyone get promoted while pregnant? I would hope our firms wouldn’t postpone a promotion because of it..

I have 4.5 yrs in Marketing Project Management - the last two have been working on a website that has earned over $20M in GP each year. I’m Scrum certified and have my CAPM. I’m on the fence about staying at my current company because of leadership changes. I’m considering asking for a title change to Senior Project Manager and a raise to $100k (currently making $85k mid level) and letting their response be the guiding decision if I stay or go. Does this seem unreasonable?

I’m starting to hate going to work. Like I actually feel sick when I have to go in. The leadership there is poor and toxic. I’ve been told for months I was going to get a promotion and they were restructuring. But nothing has changed. At what point do you give up and start applying for new jobs?
