Most of the writers I work with write poetry, short stories, or screenplays in their spare time. I’ve tried but just don’t find joy in it. Writing all day at work is enough for me, and it took some time to become ok with that. It doesn’t make you a bad copywriter — it just means you enjoy expressing your creativity in other ways.
I agree with SC7. It’s the thinking, strategizing, “concepting" I enjoy most. The writing is just an effect of that. And in general, I think a witty line or a poetic script is easy. The fun challenge is coming up with a damn good idea that’s rooted in strategic, creative thinking.
I dress like an art director
I used to write all the time, but I stopped when I started copywriting. The urge to write anything dissipated once I was doing it all day for work.
My side projects all involve photo, video or design.
I'm more of a writer's writer's writer.
Great writer with very little motivation to write for fun. Gets annoying when you’re interviewing and everyone wants you to be a failed novelist.
85% writer writer, 15% refrigerator raider
I agree with those who said writing as a hobby is hard. I actually love writing on the side when I get into it but after doing it all day I find it hard to start at home.
I like the thinking. The writing is just a necessary side effect of that
Is it ok to say I’m a 1%er?
Writerist writer who ever writed.
Terrible writer here.
A poems and drawings type writer.
Glad to know I’m in the same boat... i work so many hours that when I do get time off I just like to idk... live life? Do nothing? doodle/scribble around in my private notebook that I never share online? That shouldn’t feel like the worst thing.
I write comedy but that’s mostly stand up and sketch. No interest in screenplays, books, poetry etc
^^^ word for word what sc5 said
Terrible writer here.
100% writer writer - 50% copywriter
I’m a check-cashing writer.
